Julie's Story
Life
My life....well I left Moon back in '96. I joined the Navy as a Gunner's Mate and was honorably discharged in 2001. I have a wonderful husband and 4 wonderful kids....Maximilian, Jayden, Stryder & Reyna. We are a homeschooling family, and enjoy it immensely. I started out with my the oldest children in public school, but Max was the first one I pulled out. It was for many reasons, but mainly because the school taught common core, and the emphasis was on the achievement test, and not a good education. After the Sandy Hook tragedy, I pulled out the rest of my children when a few local schools were locked down due to threats.
I'm very grateful that my husband has a great job so that we have the opportunity to keep our children at home, and offer them a first rate education without all the drama.
Military
Ah, the Navy...what is it they say? Never Again Volunteer Yourself!?!? Honestly though, I would say that my time in the military ...Expand for more
was some of the best years in my life. I have traveled the world and met people that I would consider friends forever. I went in looking for money for school and ended up having the time of my life. Being a female gunner's mate was no easy task...not that handling weapons was all work mind you...but it's a field dominated by men...and it's not completely about firing guns either. In school I had to learn calculus and physics...which really made me regret all the times I skipped school. I learned solid state, numerical languages like binary, and lots of other stuff that you would think would have NOTHING to do with weapons, but amazingly does. PLUS it's lots of fun being able to hold my own in a conversation with men about the specs of a new weapon.
Being in the miliaty gave me enormous sense of patriotism and respect for myself and for others. It's an experience I would recommend to other's...and it certainly changed me for the better.
