KATHY's Story
Attended HP Central from Fall 1969 until graduating in Spring of 1972…then took a year off after graduation deciding on what I wanted to do in life 😂🤣😅
Worked at Jo Shaw Letter Shop in the Radio Building in High Point for about 3 months and hated it.
Worked at Lyon Furniture Mercantile(Redbook) on S Wrenn in High Point. Started as a file clerk, moved to typist in Collection Dept, then promoted to Credit Reporter. Worked there for almost 8 years.
Moved on to Wright of Thomasville(which was graphic arts/printing company for home furnishings, foods, etc) as an assistant to the Executive Assistant of the President, William D Wright. She immediately took maternity leave and I was thrown into her job, hook, line and sinker! I managed very well but was lost at times. I remember asking how to do something one time and all I was told was “Just put it in your typewriter and just ...Expand for more
do it”. When Bill called me at home on a Saturday morning and asked how a word was spelled today, I told him the same way it was spelled yesterday...to which he finally stuttered around and asked “well, how is that”. When the original Executive Assistant returned she was moved to Sales and I moved to her position. After staying there almost 38 years, I saw many many changes, both good and bad but I was able to take early retirement in 2015.
Along the way I married in 1988 and had 1 child in 1989. Moved from High Point to Greensboro to Asheboro and now live on the Randleman/Asheboro line in Turtle Lake Farms.
Like most people, life has been full of challenges but am so glad to finally be able to slow down and enjoy life more! Just waiting for the warmth of the sun to be shining down on my face while I lounge on the deck with a view of the pond and a good book in my hands!
