Karen's Story
Life
My Spouse
We met on a bowling excursion in 1995, engaged in 1998, were married in 1999, had firstborn - a boy - in 2002, and we just had the second - a girl - in 2007.
School
No need to announce my biggest crush...all of Hillcrest practically knew, including teachers, guidance counselors, etc. And if you didn't...well, that's just ok....LOL
As for teachers, by far the most memorable are Barbara Singer, Arthur Krell, Elizabeth Pardo & Robert Anderson. English Rules!!!
Craziest was me learning to drive (you had to be there :-) and most pathetic was me & Vanessa messing up spelling Mr. Uretzky's name on a very unusual math test! I hope I got it right here...LOL
Still in touch with longtime pals from those old days...who, still to this day, tease me about my biggest crush...LOL
College
Campus life was awesome! However, I was one of those unfortunate souls with MANY caffeine-fueled all-nighters who barely dragged myself to class to get those papers in on time! In addition to caffeine those nights were D&D (Dunkin Donuts) and Blimpie-fueled. It was there I developed my craving for The Blimpie Tuna Melt with extra extras and chili with cheddar cheese.....OMG......
I was involved in so much...Expand for more
....The New Voice, The Satellite, HTV, The Student Government, Nirvana, etc. I'm still in touch with the greatest friends ever from FLP (Freshman Level Program) and Nirvana.
Hofstra provided an amazing all-around learning experience!
Workplace
After graduation, I spent a little while with family traveling then got into the job-seeking routine. Within 3 weeks of searching I was employed in the world of media entertainment. About 2 years into magazine advertising sales, I applied to graduate school. While working for various companies in magazine & book publishing, I pursued a Master's Degree in Publishing. Through an internship, I went to NBC Sales Research, learning and rising quickly. Then 9/11 hit and chaos broke out...I still remember clearly that day when I saw the towers burning from our 25th floor windows of the Rockefeller building. After 9/11, forward-thinking to the important things in life, I decided to have a child. After a complicated post-pregnancy, I remained home for 2 years and started back out in 2005 at Scripps Networks (The Food Network, HGTV, DIY, Fine Living & GAC). It's been great getting back into the working world and I've discovered a lot of classmates in the area!!!
