Life
I went to College for 1 year after HS, decided I did not like it. Self employed painting interior and exterior homes til I landed a job at Shell Station in Westland. Worked there for 9 years, Then went to work for Red Holman Pontiac in June of '81 for 1 year. Got Married in Oct '81, bought Motel in NC in March of '82. Business failed because of recession. Went to work for Daniel Construction in Wilmington, NC in Jan '83. Moved back to Michigan in Nov '83. Did not look for another job til Jan '84, and was hired in at GM in Mar '84 to present. 3 step-children, 5 grand kids. 5 cats. RV and love it.!!
Workplace
I was a development technician. work only on proto, alfa, and beta vehicles, (pre-production) Engineer writes a ticket of any request for vehicle part change, modify vehicle in some way, or get ready for durability test or hot or cold weather test. Test preparation is very tedious and usually calls for overtime. My group works an average 60 to 80 hour work week during peak seasons.
Have been instrumenting vehicles for hot and cold weather testing for the past 10 1/2 years.....looking forward to retirement, since I started here late in my c...Expand for more
areer I have to work 5 1/2 more years for a decent retirement as long as we don't go under!! Like to travel in our RV!!
As of October 31, 2008 I am unemployed, took early retirement, wasn't eligible for 100% but am happy with the 81% they gave me. Things were just too shakey and still are to stay with GM. Husband has been retired for 5 years so now we can take advantage and do a little traveling! I haven't been off long enough to really think that I am retired.
5 years ago I lost my mom in April to a stroke and my older brother Jack in October to cancer. It was a reality check as to what really is important in life. That is another reason I decided to "retire".
Now I can travel to N.C., Ohio and Colorado to see grand kids.
I no longer am involved with HSHV in Ann Arbor. I now have my own group "Feral Kitty Trappers TNR, Inc" We have trapped over 300 cats this past year for TNR and have socialized and adopted 36 of over 50 kittens. I have a website and FB Page. We take the cats/kittens to All About Animals Rescue in Warren to be sterilized and the younger kittens are turned over to Mosaic Feline Refuge in Ann Arbor for adoption. ALL kittens are "vetted" before adoption.
