Karen's Story

Life Hmmm...how to sum up all that is me?!?! Well, on the drive from 0 to 26, I’ve navigated through several detours along the way!!! I found myself on many crazy adolescent road trips, even passing through High school Drop-out Town (just east of Margaritaville). After being lost a short while, I realized I was on the wrong road and often spinning donuts right smack in the middle of nowhere. However, I did have some great adventures and met some wonderful people (you know who you are) and wouldn’t trade the experience for anything in the world. Fortunately, I stumbled across other great and wonderful people (you too know who you are) who then handed me some directions to a whole new uncharted territory....the land of maturity. At 19 years old, and with a new destination in sight, I drove the hell out of dodge and crashed on the door step of Tacoma Community College. I must say, I think I’ve finally fully recovered. I’m now 26 years old, have a great career in nursing, purchased my first house last year, and traded in my “teenage detour car” the Geo Metro (others might affectionately remember it as the blue tin can) for a sporty little Infiniti G20. Where to next did you ask? Well, although I’m still unmarried, I have m...Expand for more
anaged to snag a certain handsome passenger for the past 3 years (you definitely know who you are) to help keep me from falling asleep at the wheel again...and who knows maybe I’ll snag a car seat or two someday as well. But for now, I seem to have caught the travel bug....so perhaps I’ll park my car and learn how to fly. I heard Austrailia's nice, G'Day Mate! 6/10/05 College I recently finished my Associates Degree of Nursing in June of 2003. I wanted to get some clinical experience before moving on to UW to complete my BSN, so I've taken a year off. Workplace I am currently working as a registered nurse in the critical care units at St. Joseph Medical Center. Although, stressful at times, I find my line of work very rewarding and I couldn't imagine doing anything else. In the near future, I plan on working abroad as an international traveling RN...where you can accept 3-6 month contracts in just about any country/city you want. My goal is to get paid to discover as much of Europe as possible, while they flip the bill for all my housing & expenses! Eventually, upon returning to the states, I plan on expanding my profession into other specialties such as post-cardiac surgery intensive care and neonatal intensive care.
