Karen's Story
Life
I am a person who trusts God and have weathered storms still keeping a positive attitude about life events. With that trusting spirit I am not afraid to try what many think is impossible. You see, you cannot say you love and trust God and not step out on faith. In 2000 I stepped away from the Cincinnati Public School System and opened my own K-6 Charter School, T.C.P. World Academy. With God leading the way, we soared to the top and are the number one Charter School in Cincinnati, one of the top Charter Schools in the State of Ohio. I love what I do as the
Superintendent/Principal and do not consider it work. It is a blessing to serve others and bring joy to people's lives.
I love and mother many children of others but I have bore none of my own. I guess that was God's master plan. I still love to play volleyball and am good at it. My staff and I always beat the 6th grade students. I have a mean side arm serve. Working with children has helped keep me young and witty. I always try to keep some form of exercise in my life, even now. I love to dance, mostly by myself during my inspirational time in the evenings or on Saturday afternoons. The summer of 2008 I added weight lifting to my health program. I hate it but I love what it does for me. During the spring and summer I do a lot of walking and bike riding, either on different trails in the parks, in my neighborhood or walking in the Mall. Nature is very beautiful to me. Surrounded by such beauty helps me do some of my best thinking.
One exciting thing that has occurred in my life recently is finding and visiting with my junior high school friends, Shirley Duncantell and Gladys Cotton. It is funny how much we change but really stay the same. You can always be yourself with your childhood friends, nothing like your real friends.

a Cotton, Gladys' twin, left this world in 2006.
Does anyone know how to get in touch with Brenda Williams?
School
The teacher that inspired me the most was Ms. Nan Snowden, Mt. Vernon Junior High. Mrs. Edwards, with the bright red lipstick, the stern face, and the over emphasis on grammar and excellent writing helped me the most, even though at the time I hated her Los Angeles High School English class. She marked all over your paper with red ink, even if she gave you a good grade. It was a memorable time pledging Thalians at L. A.; I had so much crazy fun.
College
Working backwards, I earned a Master Degree and post graduate credits from Xavier University, Cincinnati, majoring in Counseling and then School Administration. There I pledged "AKA" and met many people in Cincinnati. AKA was not a good match for my personality, did not meet any lifelong "for real" friends. I attended California State University where I first got real serious about education and earned by Bachelor of Science. I had the most college fun at West Los Angeles Junior College where I was a cheerleader and flower queen. It was insightful playing chess in the student union there. I learned good life lessons about planning and strategizing.
Workplace
While attending California State Fullerton, I worked as a secretary at Rockwell Internation. After completing the teacher education program I worked as a substitute teacher in the Los Angeles School District. After less than a year I moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where I currently live. I taught Physical Education, (mostly Gymnastics and Volleybal), and Science for fifteen years, was a counselor for a short while and was an Assistant Principal for several years. August 2000 I opened a Charter K-6th Grade Public School of 375 students, T.C.P. World Academy. Well, you know the rest.
