Karen's Story
01/2008
I moved around a lot in college, starting out at UWF, then to U of Arkansas, to Auburn (where I always wanted to be), and finished up through Auburn via Buffalo, NY (thanks to my ex-husband, who left me with a few good recipes and a lot of regret). I moved to Kansas, where I worked as a commercial architect for 7 years, met and Married the love of my life, Mike - that makes me Karen Hoffmann, and started raising our darling little girl, Haley.
We moved to Avon, Co (next to Vail, the Ski Capitol of the USA) last summer when I accepted a job here designing high end residential and resort architecture. The job description was everything I had wanted since high school, in the state I've always wanted to live. The job sucks, and at this point, so does architecture. At least I'm in the mountains with guaranteed White Chrismas's and a great big play ground outside my door.

to fix my hair all pretty before I go somewher, but at least I'll take the garbage out without the do, and in my jammy's (provided there are no bears out).
The funny thing is, I hated to read in high school - hate, hate hated, but now it's just the greatest thing. And writing, that was downright torture. Now I'm writing a novel in my free time - for the fun of it. I pinch every moment out of lunch time, between cooking dinner and playing Horseopoly with Haley, and watching the required shows with Mike. I can't get enough of it. I automtically wake up about 5:30 on the weekend's and get straight to it. In high school, I'd be in bed till noon.
My first summer in Colorado was great. I would take off on the spur of the moment to go hiking, caving, camping, or just cooking out over an open fire until 2am. I'd love to take off skiing, but Mike's a scaredy-cat, so I'll have to hibernate and write all winter. We are looking forward to Spring - it's all play from there.
