Karen's Story

After graduating, the plan was to take a year off - the now famous gap year - and then continue with college after. My Mom said, "if you take a year off, you'll never go back." Well, she was right as usual, but I wouldn't change the way my life played out. I had several jobs: administrative assistant, real estate, etc. until I settled at USLD Communications (formerly US Long Distance) where I eventually became the Director of Marketing. I was there for 9 years before they were acquired by another company, and I would have had to move to McClean, VA. By that time, I was married and had grown to love San Antonio so I wasn't about to move back east. Most of my classmates in High School knew me as "New York," because that's were I was born & raised before moving to San Antonio in 1976 smack in the middle of Sophomore year. Before I ended up retiring from USLD in 1998, I had a spiritual awakening on April 1, 1996 and began a journey of discovering God and His Truth. I began doing a lot of philanthropic work, and was on the Board of several non-profits. I had my son on March 27, 2003...Expand for more
, and two months later turned 42, so I got a late start but was a pretty chill Mom because I've seen a lot in my years on earth. My Son is 16 now, and we recently purchased a Ranch in Comfort, Texas! It's a beautiful place and my goal is to house and help girls in crisis pregnancy. Girls with no hope and no help. We'll provide them with a beautiful place to live, and a variety of jobs and skills they can learn to help propel them out of the cycles of poverty, out-of-wedlock birth, and abortion that many find themselves. We have two Event Pavilions, Lodging for up to 40 Guests, two Restaurants, Stables for 12 horses, Vineyards, Gardens, and 30 additional acres on the Guadalupe. It's a beautiful place, and I've dubbed it a "Venue with a Vision." I've been busy at the Ranch, learning a lot, and booking Weddings & Events, but I've been keeping up with all the plans for our reunion. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone, but please don't be offended if I don't remember you, I can barely remember what I had for breakfast. Oh, wait, I haven't had breakfast - gotta go, see you soon.
