Karen LaRosa:

CLASS OF 1976
Jennings, MO

Karen's Story

Life Well, classmates, I was sorry I couldn't make it to the 30th reunion. I had just returned from Africa & needed to spend some time with my mom. She contracted cancer just about throughout her whole body, & time was running out. She absolutely loved the photos we took on the trip. I'm not signed up to receive emails through this site, so if you want to contact me please review the phone number & email address that was given at the 30th reunion. Would love to hear from you!!!! Here's my bio after graduation: Worked at various types of jobs, then beecame a carpenter for about 2yrs., worked on the new post office on Halls Ferry Rd., as well as Mo. Baptist College Dorms, & elsewhere, then retired from carpentry work. Have had many jobs to speak of, but my most rewarding job is my volunteer job at our 'World Famous-St. Louis Zoo', & have been a Docent/Animal handler for about 17 years now, on Sat. mornings. Had the opportunity to help with research studies for the endangered Grevy's Zebras over in Africa, so my husband Mark & I went with 8 others. Docent means teacher. Animal Handler means just that, I get to take animals out & let the kids & parents touch them & see them up close. I'm Loving every minute of it, & meeting people from all over the world! Wasn't able to have children, but have nieces & nephews from both sides of the family....breaking my bank account's around the holdays!! Do ceramics here at my home & have 2 kilns in which I can fire my pieces in. Sure miss school, but just the after school activities, like Choir concerts, Diving, sports, & others. Married Mark in May 1979. He graduated Rosary High School in 1972. Met him through Wayne Fusselman & his brother's. He's the one who bought me my first car. Remember the red 1967 Pontiac Firebird? We finally sold it to one of his friends at work abo...Expand for more
ut 3yrs. ago. We Just celebrated 28 years of wedded bliss this May 2007. When I was working at Maritz in Fenton, I won a trip, & decided to upgrade the trip, paying extra, & go to Kauai. But Mark didn't like it much, 'cause it rained every morning there. I played on the sandy beach, in the rain, with those little sand crabs, & didn't miss him while he watched tv in the room, till the rain stopped. We did take a helicopter ride, & go to a luau, and other neat things,...but if I get a chance to go back, he will stay at home! He's had the same career at St. Louis Honda for the past 30 years now, as a Service Advisor, winning many awards for his hard work & dedication. I can't say the same for me, the longest time I've held a job was probably 5 years, & that was at Maritz. Unfortunately management changes made it unbearable, like having to train my new boss. She didn't know how to turn on a computer! She came from another dept., & was making six figures a year!! Shortly after I left they fired my boss, & if I would have had the insight, I would have tried to stick it out & prevail after all. But, Who knew? Just got a computer, & wondering how everybody else is doing? I've lived in So. County, since 1980. Our back yard backs up to Sylvan Springs Park, which is near Jeff. Barracks Cemetary, and Jeff. Barracks Park. Love the fact that there will never be houses built there. Ride our bikes frequently. Sure would like to hear from some of my High School buddies. Seems like after graduation, everybody else moved out to St. Charles, or something. Is anyone froum our class still living in Jennings? Some neighbors & friends I knew are still there. Please look up my phone number or email address from the booklet given out at the 30th reunion. I was sent a copy from Beth (McWilliams) Stone. What a great thing to read up on.
