Karen's Story

Life I live in Ladera Ranch, California, with my husband of 35 years, and our beagle, Bailey. We have a boat we keep in Newport Dunes Resort Marina, and I do all of my research aboard our boat. I use it as my office. We spend every weekend there, and we take trips with other Newport mariners to San Diego and Catalina. I am a criminology professor, and I am now writing mystery/suspense novels. The first one should be published next year. Workplace I received my Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. My areas of expertise and interest include Law and Society, Criminology, Statistics, Urban Issues, Medicine, and Population and Environment. ues and did that nine different years. I have done field research in a California hospital, survey research in four hospitals in Ireland, and field research on population and environment in West Africa. One of my current research interests is the history of the law of the sea using a human ecological approach. Most of my work on ocean law was completed using the League of Nations Archives located in the Library of the United Nations Office at Geneva, in the Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland, which is the world repository for international law of the sea materials. I am currently incorporating that research into a book on the history of the law of the sea. I recently presented a paper on ocean law in Berlin, Germany.
