Karen's Story
Life
Let's see. I got married at the young age of 20. I graduated from Pembroke State with a degree in English w/ a Journalism concentration. I worked part time for the Fayetteville Observer for 6 years while my children were young, then worked in the Public Relations Office for the Cumberland County Board of Education for 9 years (now that was a hoot! - I ran into a lot of teachers that I hoped didn't remember me - but they did!)
I've been working at Southern Regional Area Health Education Center (across the street from Cape Fear Valley) over 7 years ago as Director of Marketing and Public Relations.
My husband, John, graduated from Pine Forest High School in 1973 and works at Kelly Springfield. We have two beautiful children - Stephen (24) and Katharine (22).
Stephen played the #1 spot on the Terry Sanford High School tennis team since he was a freshman. He played for UNC-Wilmington and App State until he decided that he wanted to graduate with a degree that would get him a good job. He is in his senior year as a nursing student at UNC - Pembroke and will be a Navy offic...Expand for more
er upon graduation in May.
Katharine is my flower child/musician and was born a member of Greenpeace (her goal in life is to SAVE THE WHALES). She is a senior zoololgy major at NC State and volunteers her time to feed the turtles, frogs and clean out the snake cages at the NC Museum of Natural Science in Raleigh. She also volunteers at the Carnivor Preservation Trust in Pittsboro. She's quite a gal!
Both of my children have been better teenagers than I ever was. I wonder what I did right and my mother did wrong? Oh well. Life is good.
I've been fat and thin and fat again and thin again (working hard to keep it that way) and I'm very happy. I live in the Briarwood neighborhood. I'd love to see any of my high school classmates. Give me a call at (910) 678-7104

no big crush; but my greatest influence as teachers were:
Ann Perow - junior english
I recently ran into Mrs. Rowell (homeroom, typing and shorthand teacher) in Beaufort, right before the Tall Ships event. She looked exactly the same! We also got in trouble by the museum director for talking too loud:)
