Karen's Story

Hi Gang~ Okay, to do a major fast forward from graduation in 1974...I'm living in Europe these days and working as an advisor / consultant. Lots of travel and adventure included into the mix so I truly love and enjoy my life over here. That said, I still keep my place back home because you can take the girl out of CA but you can't take the CA...well...you know the rest. I married in 1977 and remained that way for 10,311 days (give or take). Totally enjoyed being married and totally enjoying being an intrepid woman on her own these days, so I am. I've no plans to change that status for as far as I can see out on the horizon. The only committed relationship I must maintain is with an orchid that suffered the fate of landing with me as a house warming present. Amazingly, somehow it manages to hang on for grim death in full bloom, despite my crazy travel schedule. Everything in life should be so wonderfully "low maintenance!" I will say that at this point in my wanderings, I do have a rigorously field tested personal philosophy that has "stuck" due to the fact that it has served me so very well. In my adventures all over this planet, I've found that all a girl needs to conquer the world is a living God (I've found Him to be rather big on adventures), to have had one true love at some t...Expand for more
ime in her life (if he can cook all the better), an incredible sibling who does double duty as a best friend (you who know my sister Tricia know how totally blessed I am...she's nothing short of amazing). Furthermore, an intrepid woman on her own, must carry herself in a practical pair of shoes (I prefer the type built for speed & endurance). She can never have too many pockets, too much hope, or be too wild at heart. My son has grown since the "Then" picture taken in 1986 (22 years prior to the "Now" pict taken from inside a "corporate" helicopter this past spring). Time flies so it does...TJ's now a shocking 28 years old! He's a shipwright (no surprise there since he was all but born in our first sailboat). What can I say...? the ocean's siren song can be mighty and so can that "hole in the H20 one pours $$$$ into." I'd been planning for the past year or more to attend CHS's big 50th, but sadly work has had to pre-empt those well laid plans. So to you, Mr. Boggie, I'll say that I will be with you and everyone else in spirit come the festivities in mid September. Have a wonderful time! I wish I could be there in "real time" but the picts (I'm hoping will be posted on the CHS site) will simply have to do. So now...this catches things up for me... Cheers, Karen Murphy Class of '74
