Karen's Story
Life
I currently live in Kennesaw, GA having moved to Georgia in 1978. I have 2 children, ages 25 and 9. My 25 year old daughter, Heather, was a biologist at the Georgia Aquarium for 2 years, however she decided it was time to do something wild and gave up everything, moved to San Francisco with a suitcase, a guitar and backpack, and no place to live! She has been there for a year, has a new man in her life, and is working as a dog groomer! he's happy, healthier than when she lived in Atlanta, and I'm proud of her - just sad that I cannot get my Bear-hug every few days. My son, Tristan, is a 4th grader at The Walker School in Marietta. My husband, Chuck, is a Hawker pilot for Flightworks out of McCollum Airport in Marietta. . I am an owner/VP/CFO of Phoenix Crane Rental in Mableton, GA. We are the largest family owned, local crane company in Atlanta. We've been in business for 26 years. Many of you will remember that in December of our Senior year I was involved in a brutal car accident that crushed my ankle. After 30 years of suffering with the damage from that accident, wear and tear on the joint, and arthritis that set in about 7 years ago, I had total joint replacement in January 2006. After 8 months of recovery and therapy, I am now walking without assistance and on my way to a full recovery. This was a necessary procedure in order to enjoy my son's chidhood as an active parent, not one who sits on the sidelines in pain! Life is good. I am thankful for many, many things.
