Karen Elizabeth Anne's Story
I joined the Air Force less than a month following graduation. Stayed on active duty for 9 1/2 years and then started my family. Immediately enlisted in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and then went back on active duty with the Headquarters at Andrews AFB, MD and retired in 1993. Went to work at the Womens' Military Memorial in Arlington Cemetery, then to the local Sheriff's Office, and finally back into the federal government. Final assignment was Chief of Protocol, Bolling AFB, DC until it went Joint Base with the Navy. y stay in Maryland forever as there is not much family left in MO. Played softball until I turned 40 and won the National Championship for the Air National Guard. Then watched my daughters play. I now have 8 grandchildren, 6 girls, and 2 boys; 4 live in CA. I have moved in with my daughter and son-in-law following the suicide of my 3rd husband and all that mess that resulted. My son and his family live 10 miles down the road so we are finally located close together. In 2021 I am still working with veteran efforts taking part in helping to train puppies to become service dogs while raising money to ensure training facilities can stay operational.
