Karen's Story
I am a member of the class of '67. Stayed in Largo until 1973, working as a secretart at the County Courthouse. Moved to Atlanta for a couple of years where I worked at a law firm and loved my social life there. Returned to Florida by way of Tampa, worked for a while and decided to go back to school in '78. Became a nurse (who would have guessed?!?) and have worked for 30 years in ER, ICUS, Surgical Recovery areas.
Had my heart shattered a couple of times early on but am now married to a wonderful reborn southerner, originally from Pittsburgh. We got off to a late start in '88. He was married before so I acquired 4 step-sons, then we had a son in 1990. A couple of our boys are married, a couple in committed relationships, and we are still waiting on "our's" to commit, but he is young yet. We hope to get 2-3 more grandchildren to add to our existing 9.
We have all been through a roller coaster of events over the years and my family is #1. I have had a couple of health...Expand for more
issues along the way and credit my recoveries to the indulgence and care from my wonderful husband and my sister for getting me through. My other family members and co-workers were fantastic and supportive as.
If I could change anything it would be to get rid of some of the "advances" made in the past 46 years (just don't take my smart phone away !!) and have a much simpler life where people did not work as many hours, the dollar went further, and there was more time to spend with family and friends. We've had some good times along the way, but people today are all working too hard and families are too distant. Have to make appointments to visit, unlike when we were growing up. Some of my best friends were my cousins and families visited often. Wish that my kids were as close to their aunts, uncles & cousins as I was to mine.
I have yet to attend a reunion, but don't give up on me. There just always seems to be something more pressing when these things are scheduled.
