Karen's Story

I've moved all over the world since leaving HS. I married young and that didnt work out. He was gay.....guess I wasn't his type.....lol. In my 20's I married an Air Force man I met in northern FL. We were stationed in Vegas, Germany, California, Tennessee and then retired in Minnesota. I traveled all over Europe during the 80's while we lived there, it was cheap back then. We lived in MN thru the 90's. Had 2 daughters. Now have 4 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 3 great grands In 2000 we followed my dream from childhood and that was to live in Alaska. I had a good friend up here and she helped us get settled. Hub and I started a construction business in Anchorage and did well for 7 years. We then decided we didn't like the city life of Anchorage and we moved about 60 miles away, a little north of Wasilla, AK, Sarah Palin's home city. (Updated 5/14/2022) We loved AK for 21 yrs, but unfortunately on Mar 31, 2021 my husband of 44 yrs passed away. I could not afford to stay in AK and moved to Bob Hope Senior Living Community in Shalimar, FL on Dec 1, 2o21. Now loving the sun and warmth and looking forward to still doing some traveling. Updated October 23, moved to Pensacola and bought a home. Too young still for retirement community living. My heroes are all the men and women of the military particularly Vietnam Vets, my husband served 2 tours there The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Shelley Paul, because we were best friends. ause best friends and always wondered what happened to her. If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to my church, then buy some land and build tiny homes for veterans to live in. My current age is 67. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old and decrepit. I was so completely wrong. My best friend would tell you I'm outgoing, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as shy. In 10 years, I hope to be healthier. I'm going to get there by exercise and eating better. I met Karel my dearest friend, in 1983 in Germany. We clicked immediately over some good German beer. Since then we've seen our kids grow, make mistakes, learn and eventually turn into wonderful adults. We've had ups and downs in our friendship but we always came back together because we care so much for each other. I love her like a sister. She's been gone since 2011, still miss her. My first job was at Dipper Dans Ice Cream in LighthousePoint, where I got paid 1.00 hr to serve ice cream. What I remember most about it is he was so cheap, he'd re-use napkins people had already used, but weren't that dirty......gross!. I was a brunette in high school so most people won't remember me by looking at this picture, but I started going gray right after high school, and by my mid 20's it was either dye it or go natural. I was too young then and am too young still to go natural yet, maybe there will come a time when I will feel old enough in my heart to let it go, but I still feel 21 in my heart and hope to stay that way for a long time to come.
