Karen's Story
20 years already??? I have such great memories from WMHS¿and at the risk of sounding like an old foagie, those were the days. I was truly lucky to have been a part of it all. Thank you Mrs. Schuler (for making us work hard, and thereby loving music all the more)¿thank you Jim Morningstar, Tony Scott, Gary & Michelle, for the most wonderful memories, I miss you all¿Donovan (sorry for all the times in Vocal Dimensions when I crushed your feet!), Antoine McKay (where ARE you?), Jennifer Baker, I want to see you perform in the symphony someday, you amaze me¿I have taken up the cello again! Nancy Myers, I would love to hear from you¿you taught me so much that I can only now understand and appreciate. Thank you Gerry Huber, for showing me a different path. I think of high school often with a lump in my throat and very fond thoughts.
Since graduating, I went to MSU and had the time of my life (thank you, Patty Pitsenbarger¿little ¿Squirt¿!). I earned my degree in nursing in 1994 and lived on my own for a while. I got married and ...Expand for more
had two extraordinary boys, Alex (12) and Adam (9), who are the shining lights in my life. I worked in Critical Care for about 6 years (Wendi Capen trained me when I first hit the cardiac unit!) and then I transitioned to Nurse Case Management in 2000, which is what I do currently. Maritel Perocho and I became good friends after high school and we have actually worked together as nurses for many years. After a bit of a rough period of losing my dad and then a divorce, the boys and I were on our own for a while. We started over in 2004, bought a home, and life settled down nicely. As luck would have it, my next door neighbor, Mark, turned out to be the most phenomenal guy (the fates were very kind to me), and we married in 2006. Mark has two delightful daughters, Maddie (12) and Hannah (11), and combining our two little families has been nothing short of an incredible adventure. Our lives are wonderfully chaotic and colorful with four kids, a 100 lb. golden retriever, and one cool cat, Mikey.
I wish everyone the very best¿GO ZEBRAS!!
