Karen's Story
I LOVE to travel! Right after graduation I toured Europe with the United States Collegiate Wind Band, playing bassoon! We made a record in France! In 1980 I was on Semester at Sea, a 100 day voyage around the world for college credit! Some of the countries included in our tour were Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Egypt, Crete, Greece & Spain. I spent a summer teaching English as a second language in Taiwan while continuing to study Mandarin Chinese! Since then I have been to many islands in the Caribbean, Costa Rica (participated in the COSI home stay and language school!), Turkey, Dubai, Bali, both Eastern & Western Australia (I won a trip to the Audi Food & Wine Festival in Margaret River!), Kenya, South Africa (participated in the Great White Shark dive!), Lima, Cusco & Machu Pichu, Fiji, cruised the inside passage of Alaska & more! In 2010 we went to World's Fair in Shanghai, then to Xi'an to visit the Terracotta Soldiers, ending in Beijing, visiting Tiananmen Square & The Great Wall! My dad’s last bucket list was taking The Rocky Mountaineer across western Canada! We took him on this beautiful journey from Whistler to Vancouver, Kamloops, Jasper, ,Lake Louise, Banff & Calgary, visiting the ice fields, seeing wildlife & taking in nature at its finest! Our plans in 2018 include a tour of southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Cambodia and Tha...Expand for more
iland as well as a Viking Riverboat Cruise from Prague to Amsterdam. Our annual backpack trip on the Camino de Santiago has been a phenomenal highlight recently! When January rolls around it signals that training for the Camino must start! Diligence pays off when we hit the trail in September! Due to vacation constraints, we hike about 110 miles/6 days annually. The French Camino is about 500 miles, so we are about two-thirds completed now! We're taking a month in 2019 to see South America from Rio de Janiero, Iguaza Falls, Buenos Aires, a cruise around Cape Horn to San Antonio, Chile, Santiago, Chile, Mendoza & Easter Island! As far as education, I received a BS in Pharmacy at the University of Colorado, Boulder, then went on to receive a doctorate (ND) in Naturopathic Medicine at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. I did a 2 year residency & 1 year fellowship at Standard Process in Palmyra, Wi. in whole foods supplements I have 2 sons, Christopher & Nicholas and 2 grandsons, Kolton & Kooper. Steve & I live on a farm with our horse, Lacy. I have practiced as a Pharmacist since 1984, the past 15 years with Walgreens. I love to cook; gluten free & mainly organic, & paleo! One of our other passions is scuba diving! Steve is a PADI instructor & I have completed Dive Master, though only do recreational diving! Living life to its fullest!!
