Karen's Story
I hope people remember me as always having smile.
I like to go fishing with my husband. I also like to spend time with my kids.
The wildest thing i ever did in high scool was a couple of weeks before school was out our senior year me and a bunch of girls jumped in the back of someone's pickup and skipped the afternoon at school. We went and all got one beer and drank it. I was terrified....i was scared we would get caught.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have scrubs, stethoscope, and a pen to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
I was a medical transcriptionist for 18 years. I worked out of my home and raised my kids. I also helped my husband fight his battle with cancer. When he finally lost his battle in 1994, i went back to Texas Tech and got my nursing degree. I received my inspiration from my husband and practically living in the hospital for 12 years fighting his battle with cancer. I can now help people like they helped us for all those years.
I have lived in Lubbock or near Lubbock my entire life. My new husband and I just built a house in the CooperSchool distict. We are very proud of it and very thankful we were blessed to be able to do this.

out the way we expect it to. I never dreamed I would raise three kids by myself, let alone a special need child....but Trey is my hardest challenge in life and he also teaches me something about myself every day. He does no know a stranger, he does not have an ounce of hate in him for anyone He thinks every person, black or white, big or little, fat or skinny, ugly or pretty, successful or homeless is his best friend.
In 1987, I was driving through the drive in at Burger King. When I got up to the drive up a bunch of cameras descended on me in my car. A man came up to me with microphone and told me to say "I love this place." I did and they went crazy....told me to drive around and give them my social security number and they would pay be for saying that. I did and about a month later my brother-in-law called from California and told me he saw me on a Burger King commercial. About a week later I started receiving checks in the mail. All in all I received around $10,000.00 for saying "I Love This Place." The commercial played nationwide during the World Series in 1987.
If I had one do-over in life...i would have listened to my parents more. It turns out, they really did know best.
