Karen's Story
Life
Updating...It's been 5 years since I lost my better half (truly the nicer one). I'm still forcing myself to move forward. I haven't slept more than 3 hours a night since leaving the ICU...so if you're up, so am I!!! I use music as an outlet. Green Day is very helpful.
The kids are doing better than I am because, well, children are extremely resilient.
Jacob turned 13 on March 19th, and he is trying to make it through the 7th grade (God help him). He's a great comedian who loves music, writing, hanging out with his friends, and getting into as much trouble is as humanly possible. He's smart-mouthed like his mother; constantly questioning rules and authority, but absolutely hilarious! Jake plays basketball year round. His absolute favorite activity is extreme sports (X-Games stuff)...adrenaline junkie. He spends every afternoon (after homework that he claims he doesn't have) practicing new tricks (that will get us to the E.R.) on his bike. Of course, I bought him a ramp.
Riley is 10 as of Feb. 8th, and she is pure SUNSHINE. She loves art, music, and all things creative. She's a straight A student, and plays basketball year round (practice and game schedules swirl through my head). Rye's absolute fav is gymnastics.....Expand for more
.if she's not at the gym, it's kartwheels on the court. Makes for an interesting basketball game! "Smiley" is a Duke TIPS student and has received commended performance awards for her academics. She is her mother's child.
Logan will be 8 on June 24th. You know how they say "you'll get back whatever you did to your parents"? He's the poster child for that saying. There are no words to describe this kid. He's Jake and Riley rolled up together with his own personal flare added as a cherry-on-top. I love this kid! He's such a hoot, and everything is unexpected because he keeps you guessing. "Lojack" also plays basketball year round, but isn't too much into school, reading, or learning in general. He's a very smart "C" student (like his dad).
Every summer you can find us at Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, the Zoo, the Science/History Museum, and the Arboretum. Being that I hate cold weather, most winters we are found at home cleaning and doing laundry with the stereo turned up to full volume as we dance like fools.
So...never a dull moment here. I'm pissed Jeff's not here to see them grow up, and HELP ME. I know their dad is watching, laughing his ass off at our craziness, and that's somehow reassuring.
Talk at ya later,
Karen
