Karen's Story
Life
After extensive consideration I pursued a degree in Psychology at UPS in Tacoma, WA, 1984. Having found my niche, I went right back into graduate school and graduated with a Masters degree in Education & Counseling. My first job out of graduate school was located in a small town called Petersburg, Alaska as a Prevention Facilitator. 1988,I was offered a job with Milam Inc. as their Adult Treatment Coordinator in Juneau (AlaskaÂs Capitol City). In 1990 I switched to working in the public sector and began work as an Employment Counselor with the Department of Labor. I also got married that year to my best friend E. Thomas Waldrip. In 1994-2001 I began working at the University of Alaska Southeast as their Career Counselor. I currently work for the State of Alaska, as a Employment Counselor assisting individuals that have barriers to employment. My husband works on the Alaska Marine Highway system as an Engineer. in 1992 on Chilkat Lake and built a remote cabin on the lake for our little get-a-way spot. We spent 1999-2001 building an aluminum fishing boat 25'. We hunt black bears in the spring, fish for salmon, halibut & king crab throughout the summer. Deer hunting starts in August, moose season is in September, goat season is in November. We normally get out of Juneau in February to our condo in Mexico. We just purchased our 2nd home about 20 miles outside of Juneau & put TomÂs elderly parents in our other house. We call our new place ÂGreenacresÂ. I have learned how to incubate & raise ducks/chickens. I currently have a rabbit business, breeding, raising & selling Giant Flemish rabbits as pets or meat. We do not have children, by choice; We enjoy our freedom and TOYS. We do have 2 cattle dogs, who are far easier to raise & much less expensive than kids. I find it hard to believe that it has been 23 years since our high school graduation.
