Karen's Story
Hello classmates - Here's my story:
In 1966, just prior to graduation, I married my high school sweetheart, James "Jim" Vernon (Class of 65). In Sept. of that year, we had our first son, David. In 1969, we added his little brother, Douglas. By 1975 Jim and I had great jobs, 2 handsome little boys and were leading a comfortable life in the 3 bedroom rambler we owned in Richfield.
In the spring of 1978, an old classmate, Cynthia Rierson, invited us to visit her in Houston, Texas. While there, we saw that jobs were plentiful, the cost of living was cheaper and the weather was much more to our liking. Three months later, even though I was expecting our 3rd son Daryl, we sold our home and moved to the NW side of Houston. Jim went from machine shop foreman, to plant superintendent and finally, a manufacturing engineer while working for three different oil field related companies. During that time, I held jobs as a secretary for Safeway Stores, then an administrative assistant at Academy Sporting Goods and finally as office manager for a medical case managemenet company. Jim and I loved Texas and lived there a total of 18 years. Sadly, in 1996, shortly after our 30th wedding anniversary, Jim died of lung cancer.

997 I moved back to Minnesota, remarried and became a full time secretary for the Elk River Police Department. My 2nd marriage ended in divorce in 2006. Around that time, I was contacted by a former South High classmate, Patrick Chesney, through Classmates.com. and we're still together.
When we retired in 2011 we moved north to my summer retreat near McGregor, MN. We have made many friends through the church we joined and have grown to love the area and our country lifestyle. We go fishing when the weather is good and in the fall, when the temps dip down to freezing, we head south in Pat's 5th wheel.
Two of my sons live in Texas, one lives in New Mexico and Pat has a son in Tennessee - so we have plenty of family to visit while we're traveling. My current profile photo shows me in front of a catholic church in Las Cruces, NM. It was taken on Easter Sunday of 2012. I'm on crutches due to a broken heel I suffered 6 months earlier when we began our winter travels through Texas. I am no longer using the crutches, and will probably walk with a limp for the rest of my life, but it hasn't kept me from enjoying our winter life on the road.
I would love to hear from some of my former classmates so send me a message!
