Karen's Story
Life in a nutshell... my husband Chris & I live in Arkansas. He's with the forest service & I'm attending the UofA, working on an M.S. in landscape horticulture. Our families are spread out coast to coast, and since we live in Arkansas we travel a fair amount to see our parents, sibs, nieces and nephews. We've also enjoyed a couple of great trips with friends in the last few years, and totally recommend vacationing with good friends. But travel is tiring and expensive, so most of the time we're those people who spend vacation time at home, working on the house and gardens. Which is also tiring and expensive, actually. That's why I'm back in school, so I can at least get paid for the working in gardens part, instead of squeezing it in around a "day job".
I'm a very different person than I was even three years ago -- I've figured out who I am and what I want, and I'm happy. I love being with Chris and being back in school; don't so much love juggling it all with work but it's a short-term sacrifice to get where I want to be, and that makes it worth it. Life is good.
We actually went back to MoTown last summer, right before moving out here. It was my first time back in something like 15 years - a surreal experience. It was fun to show Chr...Expand for more
is around, and Shelly came down to meet us so we got to hang out with her, also mucho fun. After the trip, Chris described the roads as "like a warren" - perfect, isn't it? Wandered through my old neighborhood, drove by my schools (Second Ward is an apartment building now!?!?), explored downtown and all over the WVU campus (rode the PRT, of course), had fries & bleu at Wings Ole and stayed at the Hotel Morgan. Ended up with brunch at Eat'N'Park and then a stop at Cooper's Rock. Seems like old times! The riverside development is hugely different now but the rest of it was still utterly familiar. It was fun to go back. I probably won't make our 20th reunion, but summer's a long way away and you never know.
I'd love to catch up with my old HS friends, in person or by email or phone -- there are so many of you that I remember with great big laughs (and often more than a little bit of embarrassment...but mostly with laughs). I hope you're all happy and healthy and enjoying life, and if you ever find yourself in Northwest Arkansas or tooling about on facebook, that you'll come say hi! (Oh - and btw, "Moss" was my grandmother's and mother's name, which I took as my own before I met Chris. His name is not Chris Moss. That would just be silly.)
