Karen's Story
After high school I went on to UCSB to get a bachelors degree in mathematics/economics. Next, I got a job at the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco to do economic research for two years. I then went to Northwestern's business school KGSM just outside Chicago for two years and earned a Masters of Management degree. I wanted to return to California so I took a job with Intel as a Budgets and Planning Analyst in 1984. While working there I met my husband Alex (the one with the feathers) and we were married in 1988. (He's a brit, and 6'9"tall!!!)
I left Intel in 1985 after landing a better job in San Francisco with GATX Capital Corporation. That was a great place to work so I stayed for 15 years, primarily as a deal-maker in their Corporate Finance Department. Along the way I had two sons who...Expand for more
are both in high school now. I guess that's why I joined this site, I'm thinking a lot about high school these days now that I'm having to cope with teens. Now that the roles are reversed, I'm glad to be a stay-at-home mom so I can keep my boys out of trouble. How things have changed!
So, after the study, study, study, work, work, work, kids, kids, kids, thing; I decided in June of 2000 to quit work and become an artist. I went to a graphic arts school in S.F. to learn computer animation and now I do that as a hobby. My film "It's All About Perspective" just won an award from the Los Angeles Reel Film Festival; you can see a clip of this at the IMDB website. I'm currently working on a set of "Animated Algebra" lessons on DVDs that teach Algebra to teens that don't like math. Wish me luck!
