Karin Sluyter's Story

Not a lot of excitement, just health issues the past 4 1/2 months, which is aging me terribly (I'm NOT happy about that!). My twin, Eirin, is also struggling, but has been for about 3 years now. She is in Utah, while I'm in Tennessee, and I miss her terribly!!!! All the family is out West; all over the West, but that's a lot closer than Tennessee! Dad has been gone for almost two years ago. I still find it hard to believe that cancer ravaged his body and took his life so quickly. There was nothing that could be done when it was discovered. 7 weeks later he was gone. I surely do miss my Dad!!! And all the wasted time! Oh, if only I could get those years back. My life would be very different. But, that's not how life works. I am very blessed to have a beautiful daughter with a fantastic husband and four marvelous grandchildren, all of whom I also miss terribly!!!! Mom is still in Tucson and still working! She is truly amazing. She will outlive us all. Torben lives close by her so they are see each other regularly, and for that I am very grateful. Sven is in Washington State with his wife and 5 fantastic, spirited, and sometimes, much to his chagrin, oblivious children. I am married and we have my husband¿s son on a regular basis. He is 16 and I love him as though her were my son. My husband also has a daughter who is 18 (will be 19 in May) who we haven't been able to see or have for visits...Expand for more
for 10 years now. She won't answer the phone and never returns phone calls. Unfortunately, her mother has made some poor choices with regards to her relationship with her father, who now pretty much no longer exists to her. It has broken my husband¿s heart into a million pieces; he adores her. He has grieved for her all these years. Perhaps one day she will learn the truth and want to look up her Dad, who still loves her so very much. We still keep a bedroom for her with her furnishings and everything he has ever bought her, all of her clothes since she was tiny, all her toys, and Barbie¿s, and cut-outs, artwork and finger paintings; everything! We have it all. She has a place to come home to, always. Her brother also misses her. It¿s just not right. If not in this life, she will learn the truth in the next. I wish it were now. She has missed out on a lot of precious time with her father, and he with her that they will never be able to get back. I also have missed her so very much. I too love her as though she were my own. I pray her mother will someday find true happiness, and finally learn that having a child does not become a competition for the child¿s love, and that the most damaging thing any parent can do to their child is degrade the absent parent to the child. Our prayers will continue for her good health and success, where ever she may be, and whatever her choices in life are.
