Karol Ann's Story
Life
Being a bit of a late bloomer, I went back to complete my college education in 1967 and earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Utah in 1982. I worked as a psychologist for the community mental health system in Salt Lake City, initially joining them as a secretary in 1966. While completing my education, I worked with a paraprofessional training program, the Minority Human Service Training Program, providing clinical supervision, and training and consultation regarding classes. My professional work has been providing direct clinical services to adults and providing clinical supervision. I retired in 1997 after more than thirty years of service to adult outpatients and partially hospitalized chronic patients. I partcularly enjoyed working with "w...Expand for more
omen in transition," running therapy groups, and doing clinical testing and evaluations. I also had the opportunity to serve as a grant reviewer for NIH.
I started my career as a mother early in life, and have a son and a daughter who have provided me with 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchild. In addition, I am part of a blended family that includes 2 additional grown children, my husband's daughter and son, who have provided us with 7 grandchildren. I am married to Javier Saenz, Ph.D., who originated in Panama and who has been in this country since the age of 17. He completed his undergraduate education in South Dakota and his advanced degrees at the U of U. He is also retired from the mental health system where he worked professionally with adults for over 30 year.
