Karolyn's Story
Life
I met the love of my life, Alan Weaver, at SFA, 35 years ago. I married him in May of 1971 and we're still happily married today with two grown sons. David, (our Aggie (00) married another Aggie, Vicki (02)). Dave is a Sales Rep for an international geophysical data leasing company and Vicki is a ninth grade world geography teacher and they get to travel quite a bit. (Scotland, Europe, China, all over the Carribbean, etc.)
Josh is a senior at U of H married to his high school sweetheart, Kate, UH (05)and provides backup tech support for Alan's software product parttime. He also runs an Ebay business for old MG car parts and Kate is teaching elementary school.
I have an update on Josh. He will be graduating in May from UofH with a BS in Pschology and a Minor in Health. Kate is still teaching.
You know Alan has his own business based on his computer mainframe product which is marketed out of Florida. We have a chocolate Shar-pei named Mojo (Alamo Joe) who rules the house.
I worked for 10 years for Dresser Ind. in Houston as Executive Administrative Assistant to various Vice-Presidents then I became a mom which was practically the same thing. Now I am a grandma (Mimi) and I love it. I have been Center Fielder for the Dresser softball team, a Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church in Houston, First Place Leader, Cub Scout Leader, Boy Scout Advancement Chairman, Basketball Coach, English proficiency teacher for Japanese adults, Librarian, and Aggie Mom. I was also in an archery league. I have been taking Bellydancing for three years at community college and I love it. It's great exercise and a lot of fun! I am a proud member of HABDA Houston Area BellyDancers Association. I had to argue with my spine surgeon to let me go back to class after he put four titanium screws and a kevlar cage around my lower spine after I fell and knocked a vertabrae out of line. I was screwed either way. (bad...Expand for more
joke) Surgery or a wheelchair for the rest of my life. This was April 2007. Thank you Lord for Dr. Matthew Cubbage. I went in thinking I'd hurt my hip when I fell in the kitchen, but I'd knocked the L-4 or 5 vertabra almost completely out and my spine was about to collapse and I would have been paralyzed.
Alan still has his pilot's license and we own a Piper Archer single engine airplane. We're also members of the Texas MG Club. Remember his old MG? We have a restored 1960 MGA Red Roadster just like our old one would have looked brand new (named Luther) that I drive. Alan drives our maroon and cream 1934 MGPA right hand drive that was beautifully restored by a "T-Sipper". It was so nice of him to use aggie colors for the paint job. We're also in the process of restoring a 1978 Gold Edition TransAm T-Top with Josh.
I'm sure Mrs. Lund, our HS Biology teacher would find this interesting. My daddy's grandfather was Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany's nephew. Actually, daddy's great-grandfather lost his castle in a poker game and his son was put in the Kaiser's military service. Since he was royalty and not trained, he went AWOL, stowed away on a ship bound for Galveston, was caught halfway, taught carpentry and English and when landed in Texas he married my great-grandmother(Otilla Glenz - a German peasant) and moved to Brenham then Waco.
My great-grandfather was Luis Everad Karels from Hanover, Germany but I have been unsuccessful in tracing his parents names probably because he married a peasant and was removed from the royal line. Is that a Hoot? Some of my ancesters include Vlad the Impaler (Count Dracula)!
*As of June 5, 2007, Vicki has a new job title, MOM!... and I'm MIMI and Alan is POPPI but the only word William Christian Weaver has mastered is "Da". He adores his daddy, my son David and they look totally alike. We call them "Me and Mini Me". Alan and I are really getting into the grandparent thing.
