Karry's Story
Life
I was born and raised in Benton Harbor, Michigan. I have 3 brothers (2 older and 1 younger) and 1 older sister. After graduation from BHHS in 1971, I went to Lake Michigan College for 1 year but I couldn't decide what I wanted to be when I grew up so I went into the US Navy.
I went to bootcamp in Orlando, Florida and went to Cryptologic Technician Training in Pensacola Florida. I spent 6 years on active duty serving 1 year on the USS England, touring the Far East and Vietnam, 1.5 years in the Phillipines and 3.5 years in Winter Harbor, Maine as a Cryptologic Technician (CTR-2). I was discharged from active service in 1978 and got an honorable discharge from the military in 1980. I became interested in computers while stationed at Winter Harbor, Maine and started teaching myself computer programming.
After I left active duty, I worked various retail management jobs until I got divorced in 1982 and decided to go back to college. I obtained my Associate's Degree in Computer Science in 1984.
I then started a career in the computer industry and was working as a Senior Network Engineer at Sprint Co...Expand for more
rporation until the fall of the technical industry after the 9/11 attacks. After that I became a Network Consultant working at various corporations on temporary contract jobs.
In 2007 I was offered a great contract with the state of New York as a Network Engineering Consultant and I moved to Albany, New York. I am currently still employed in that contract and probably will remain until I retire.
I am divorced, I have 3 beautiful daughters, 3 beautiful granddaughters, and I am very happy with my life.
I do miss chatting with some of my old school friends. The times of the late 60's and early 70's will never come again (thank God) but it's fun to talk about them with old friends. If you remember me and would like to "catch up" on old times feel free to send me an email at karry at karryf com
Military
Spent 6 years active duty in the US Navy. 1 year on the USS England stationed in Subic Bay, Philippines, 1.5 years in Vietnam, Tiawan, Singapore and various other parts of the Far East. 3.5 years in Winter Harbor, Maine. Achieved rank of CTR2 (Cryptologic Technician 2nd Class) Honorable Discharge in 1980.
