Kat's Story

After I left Wilson my Freshman year, I went into drug & alcohol treatment and finished my second year at Grant. I then dropped out and got my GED and began working full time. When I was 17, I got pregnant and married. I now have three beautiful children; a son, 21; a daughter 20; and another daughter, 17. I went to college at Mt. Hood after my youngest started pre-school and completed two associate degrees (Information Processing Management and Software Applications Specialist) and a one-year certificate (computer graphics) in two-and-a-half years. I was on the President's List, the National Dean's List, and graduated Phi Theta Kappa (just like Phi Beta Kappa, but for two-year colleges. My carreer really took off in '98 with Louisiana-Pacific, working in the corporate office as Corporate Training & Improvement Rep., managing all training and self improvement projects for 18,000 employees in four countries. Unfortunately, in '01, LP downsized, eliminated the whole training department and soon after, moved their headquarters to Texas. The following summer, I became very ill and was eventually diagnosed with Chronic Myofacial Pain Disease and Fibromyalgia, leaving me disabled and unable to continue my career. I tried just doing freelance graphics from my home office, but the pain kept me from keeping my deadlines and I had to give up even that. I am married to a wonderful man named Drake since '01. We own a house in the Gateway area, but plan to move out into the East country area (Carver, Damasc...Expand for more
as¿something like that) as soon as my youngest graduated high school in '09. My life certainly isn't what I planned, but I have a wonderful family and my kids keep me happy. I am very interested in drag racing and restoring classic Chevies. I raced for many years until I got sick and the tracks said it was an insurance liability to have me on the track with the meds I'm on. I held on to my street rod (that I built myself pretty much from the ground up) for a while. Unfortunately, not being able to race on the track led to a lot of dangerous street racing. My husband convinced me that it was really best for my to sell the car... for my own safety as well as yours, lol. I still have my baby, a 1964 Chevy Impala Sport Sedan 4dr. Hardtop with a factory-special-order Biscayne roof. It is on of 611 manufactured, and given that it's a 4 dr., I'm sure there are very few of them remaining. It is not in working condition right now. I was just getting ready to begin a full restoration on it when I lost my job. It is a very expensive project when done right and my husband is not a car guy, so it is difficult to convince him to put any money into it. Someday, though, I will be cruising the streets in it again and enjoying every minute. I still haven't decided if I will let Drake drive it or not, lol. I spend my free time doing things with my kids (mostly shopping with my girls and watching my son drag race) and working on home improvement projects¿I plan and supervise while my husband carries out my orders.
