Kate's Story

Life After having been contacted by old school mates, I thought I should update some of this info. I am living in Melbourne Australia (have been for six years) with my husband, Paul, of 14 years (!) and our new baby girl, Kalani (8 months). I have to say I am thrilled at finally being a Mommy (mummy as they say down here)! We moved to Australia because Paul got scholarships to do his PhD and he is currently an enviornmental researcher at a university and I am a Family Therapist, currently on maternity leave. I plan on going into private practice part time in the next few months. Paul is English originally and we met in Greece on a beautiful island, Santorini, back in 1989. We lived in the states up until six years ago, mostly in Seattle aside from an initial 1.5 years in LA. We love Seattle aside from the weather, the distance from the ocean (Paul is an avid surfer), and we miss our friends there 'heaps' (as said here in Oz). We have had friends and family come down here for visits and we went back to the states last Xmas and New Years, but just t...Expand for more
o Hawaii and PA, where my Dad now lives. We have travelled around the world and plan to continue travel to various countries over the years. I LOVE Africa and the South Pacific (Fiji is fantastic). Queensland in Australia is great, too, with the Great Barrier Reef and the diving is amazing, as is the snorkelling. We are going back up to Queensland in April for a short holiday. One of the great things about living in Austrlia is you get a standard 4 weeks of "annual leave" (vacation time) a year. Of course the beautiful beaches, laid back life style, socialized medicine, safe society, etc. are also great reasons to live here. We took out permanent residence in 2003 and our baby has duel citizenship with Australia and the US (she can get British too, but we haven't bothered yet). I don't know what other things to say right now, but these are the answers to the usual questions I am asked. Bye for now! I love getting a blast from the past, especially being 'down under' and away from my old friends in the States. If you can email me, please do!
