Kate's Story
Dave Lapczynski and I married a year after graduation and are still together. It is very smart to marry your best friend. Dave and I both spent a semester at MSU and then he transferred to Uof M and I started making babies. Our first child, Kathy Anne, was born in June of 1970 and died the following August. I miscarried our second baby. In January 1972, I gave birth to our daugther Kelly, who was followed almost 5 years later by our son Jake. Dave graduated, we bought a house, reconnected with old friends, learned to play bridge with a bridge grand master (Monty Cayce's grandmother) and had a small but happy life. In 1980, Dave was offered a job in Tullahoma TN and we moved South. We love it here. It's beautiful and laid back and a great place to raise kids and/or retire. I went to college in 1983 and have earned three degrees in biology and an EdS. in instructional leadership. I taught at Motlow college...Expand for more
for 10 years and had just been promoted to associate professor when Dave's job, which had always required a lot of travel- he has literally seen the world- required him to spend most of his time in California. So now I spend half my time in TN and half in San Francisco. I teach online biology for the Tennessee Board of Regents On-line Degree program, which is a great way for a traveler to teach. Our grown children are both in Tullahoma, Kelly is an award winning actor and former radio personality. Jake is a production manager for a large manufacturing company, and has a terrific wife and four beautiful daughters. Over the years, I have touched base with many of my friends from JGHS through Classmates. I know it is impossible to have the type of friendships we had when we were younger (and in the same state) but it's really good to know that we are still standing and still together after all these years.
