Katherine's Story
Life
Yes, I am Kathy Anderson who was Junior Miss Texas in 1976. I was 1980, Miss Austin and top ten at Miss Texas. My pageant monies helped me get through the Univ. of Mary Hardin Baylor w/ a BS in Nursing. I moved to Austin after graduation from Devine until March 1992. [I started using my given name, Katherine because there were 3 Kathy's in my nursing class; it helped to control the confusion.]
I worked in surgery at Brackenridge & St. David's. My specialty was trauma surgery; gunshots, stabbings, car accidents, etc. I went to graduate school at SWTSU and received my MS in Healthcare Administration, Dec. 1991. March 1992, I moved to the Dallas area. After getting to Dallas, earned my National Certification in Healthcare Quality. I've held administrative positions in healthcare from Dir. of Surgical Svs, other management positions, and Administrator of a few surgery centers. I got tried of hospitals and administration, so I started working as a managed healthcare consultant. I had an opportunity to expand my education to include healthcare information systems designs and implementation. I somehow ended up back in hospitals; consulting, mostly complicance with regulatory agencies. And as an academia fanatic, I became a cert. paralegal and provide healthcare legal consulting and expert witness services.
Eight years ago, I got married (a first time for both of us) to an ex-Air Force fighter instructor. Larry has been a pilot with Am. Airlines for 15 years. We have a two beautiful children; Renee Lauren (6 yrs) & Gene Edward (4 yrs). [Check out profile pictures.] I know now what was missing for so many years of my life.
I'm almost finished with my second master's in nursing education and hope to start working on my PhD in Nursing at Texas Women's University. I hoping to be nursing faculty at TWU in Fall 2008. Hopefully univ. professor hrs will be perfect to be able to do what I love the most; anything with or for my children and have summer time off.

ing my 2 children, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Renee was only 8 months old and I been married only 1½ years. Because being in the Dallas area and my healthcare connections, one of the best neurosurgeons in the states was available. He was able to remove all of the 3.0x3.5cm (~size of a golf ball) tumor. I've made a truly miraculous recovery. My only symptom at the time was a severe change in my eyesight. I thought my prescription had changed. I'm not good about going to doctors but knew I need to get new glasses/contacts. If I had waited another six months to go to my eye doctor, I would have been disableed or dead. I've made a full recovery; still have significant peripheral vision loss and really strong glasses. There is alot about the experience that's difficult explain and to understand.
I know that I have been blessed with so many miracles in the past 8 years. I never expected my fabulous husband and children. I've been able to do more than most people do in five lifetimes. My best lifetime is now. Larry and I love to scuba and snow ski. Our children are just as much into water and snow as we are. We have property in the Cayman Islands for retirement. The FAA forces pilots to retire at 65. There is a medical school in the Caymans, but not a nursing school. I'm sure I could talk the school into expanding just a little for the addition of a few nursing students. I'm just as hyper as I was in high school; it helps me young & helps with keeping up with my children!
Military
I did not service in the military but my husband was in the Air Force for 10 years. He was fighter (jets) instructor to the instructors when he go out. His father was a "lifer" in the Air Force and Larry lived several different places in the Far East growing up. His own last tour of duty was in the Philipines. When his family wasn't in the Far East, they always managed to get stationed at Forbes AFB in Kansas. His mother is from the area and most of his family is still in the Topeka area.
