Dr. Katherine Fiske's Story

Hi folks—moved to NYC for college and have been a NY resident since then. After finishing my undergraduate degree at Barnard and my two Masters degrees and my Ph.D, (also all at Columbia and all in psychology) I have been working primarily in private practice. I tried life as a college faculty person full time but much prefer the clinical world, and organizing and advocating for better mental health services in the state. I feel so fortunate to have found something I love so much—and I continue to see clients and don’t want to stop. . I may never retire fully, especially since remote work allows travel and telemedicine. I picked up a license in Colorado along with NY and MA because my husband and I travel a lot, including to ski about 30 days per year in Vail. With the time zone change I can work an half day and then jump on the slopes. Like my Mom (do you remember she worked in the cafeteria?) I always enjoyed cooking and I eventually completed a 2 yr culinary degree. It was endless fun to work PT in NYC at Restaurant Daniel for chef Boulud as a French pastry stagiere. . I managed to fit that in by taking the train from Albany (I live in Troy) to NYC once or tw...Expand for more
ice weekly— while still working in private practice full time. It has been a whole new world for me, and I even managed to edit my pastry chef’s first cookbook for him. I love combining photography and travel and I still play trumpet! I would love to have someone check out my photos if they are interested. You can see what catches my eye at: Katherinewardlephotography.com. Believe it or not, I became an internationally competitive Sabre and epee fencer in my 40’s and 50’s and had the pleasure of being Captain of the US Women’s Epee Team at the Veteran World Championships (we lost, but we tried hard). So— I am always reinventing myself and I continue to love adventures. I have an amazing psychologist spouse, and an equally incredible civil rights attorney son (who has given me 2 wonderful grandchildren).. We are all off to Disney Paris in February—the Disney part for the grandchild, the French part for my compulsion to refuel my never ending love of all things French. Since Norton never is on my agenda (I have no family there.) we won’t ever meet again in person. However, I send my best wishes to all of you. Happy adventures to you as well. Kathy (Fiske) Wardle
