Katherine's Story
Lets go down memory lane a bit first. I was born in Astoria, NY moved to College Point in the 4th grade went to PS 27 until the 6th grade whereas I attended the imfamous JHS 194 Annex. I remember seeing the 9th graders line up against the wall in the school yard and boy were they scary. They had a red letter day and it was THEM that went after you if you had your hem showing they'd pull down your slip. I never had a slip so I was safe. You had to wear a white shirt on Fridays during the assembly. I remember the gym being upstairs from the auditorium. And a boy hit me with a basketball....he was in the same grade as me and I told on him...but I only knew his first name. So they brought in a boy named John and that wasn't him. I later found out who it was and I didn't tell, many years later that boy taught me how to drive a stick shift. John Burns...I remember now. He became homeless and saved a baby from a burning building...it was in the papers. I hope that he got it together! I know back in the days we partied in Haydens. We stayed away from the older kids....they did drugs. We drank and smoked cigarettes. But hey I'm not angel..I got to experimenting too back then. It was th 70's and we all try something or another. I'm just writing what comes to mind. Oh I graduated to the little park on 20th Ave and 121st Street and the bowling alley that's where I met my first real love, Richie Schelberger and I later married...Expand for more
him in Colorado Springs. We came back to the Point for a year, had our first child,a son, Richie III and then we move to Ronkonkoma, LI. Another baby, a girl, Rena Marie...few years together then divorced, I moved to the Bronx in the 90's, near my parents who did their moved from CP in the 80's.
Now I'm in the Bronx, kids grown and living in other states. Living alone and working for the City of New York. Good job pays the bills and has good health coverage...lol. I am presently in bliss that I've become a grandma this year for the first time, my little granddaugher, is so special to me. I can't wait to go visit her in Jan '9 after I go to California and visit my son for a week together we're going to Arkansas to see my daughter's family. I can't wait. I love to travel now that I'm free to go where I want...it's great. Now that's all I've been on this computer all morning...it's Christmas Eve...and I have to get it together to go out to ear dinner with my friend. Yes we are friends and he doesn't want anything more. Me? I long for a life long commitment from a nice, gentle man (who is fiancially secure) and willing to made a commitment for the rest of our lives. Until then I remain happy being me. And that's the truth. I hope that was an interesting story...maybe I'll do more sometime in person.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Peter Infantino, because we had a moment in time together.
