Katherine's Story
A few years after high school I married a guy I met in high school. We met on the trip to Germany my junior year. He had joined the the Army in '77, we got married in '81 and traveled for the next 16 years. We had a son, born in Pisa, Italy in 1983. We've lived in Augusta, Georgia, Near Pisa, Livorno, Italy, Ogden, Utah, Mannheim, Germany, Louisiana and El Paso, Texas. We had a load of fun and saw so many things I would have never seen!
Once I left home my attitudes and ideas changed so much about the world around me. Most of you would not believe how different I am now than the confused, floundering weirdo I was in high school. I guess we all just learn lessons and grow up.
I had the opportunity to do all kinds of work over the years. I worked ias a motel desk clerk, in a clothing outlet in Ogden, a clerk in a preservation and packing facility for the US Gov't. on a military base in Utah, managed a thrift shop on an Army base in Germany, (talk about some "unique" stuff!) and then went to Louisiana Tech for a year until we had to move again.
Our son turned out liking school about as much as I did and we seriously thought he would turn out to be a championship burger flipper or a professional cart jockey at Walmart, but his senior year of high school he decided he wanted to go to pastry school. We were able to make that happen for him and he is a successful Pastry Chef (or as we jokingly refer to him at home----a Master Baker---omg, I STILL kill myself with the bad jokes!) for a downtown hotel here in Cleveland. on married a wonderful woman here in Ohio and they moved to the Phoenix, AZ area in 2009. He now works for a new casino that just opened.
When hubby retired, we explored other places to live, but we decided on coming home to see what Cleveland had to offer. It was home and we got lazy and content being home after so many years and stayed. Hubby interviewed for a few jobs in other places, but with little real interest. We've seen many places and when its all said and done, Cleveland ain't that bad compared to some other places. There is so much in this area if you take advantage of it.
Having said all that about coming home and settling down here again, our wanderings were really quite a ride and we both miss it. Since then, I've worked for Sear's Credit and National City Bank. Right now, I'm researching other employment options----you all KNOW what that means.....unemployed and looking.
In August of 2014 I lost the love of my life to Gliosarcoma. Chuck fought a 14 month battle with an upbeat attitude and never gave in or gave up. I was devastated, but I am slowly putting my life back together and inching forward. It will be a long haul, but he taught me not to give up and to keep on trying, no matter what happens.
September 2017-I purged and packed up and moved to Maricopa, Arizona, to join my son and family. My granddaughter is a beauty and my DIL is a great friend! Loving the weather and I really don't miss the snow and cold.
I hope you all have had some fun, some new and different experiences and you are, for the most part, well.
