Katherine Cook's Story
I've been a Midwestern girl since graduating from Foothill in 1972 (except for brief stints in Eureka, CA, and SLC, Utah). Although in 1972 I wasn't certain where, exactly, Nebraska even was, I attended Creighton University in Omaha, graduating with a B.A. in English in 1977. I married and had two daughters in 1980 and 1982. Divorced in 1989. I married Andrew Siewert on June 14, 1997 (we met in grad school in 1989). He is now in his 18th year teaching high school English at a boys' prep school.
My mom moved from Arizona to St. Louis in 2001, where she lived with us for the next six years. She passed away in January, 2008. e needed the room when Mom lived with us, but our house is now much too large for two. 2008 is not a seller's market, though, so we'll stay put for awhile.
We spend our summers in a cabin on a lake in northern Minnesota. In my 55 years I've lived in Ohio, Tennessee, California, Utah, Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri, and Minnesota, and I notch up 29 moves during that time, so the cabin in Minnesota really is my center. This past year we've been rehabbing one of the original log cabins my grandfather built in 1926. Our first visitors since the renovation(college girlfriends) stayed there in the Fall of 2008.
I visit California occasionally, but home is the middle of the country, where it's not too far from anywhere. Email me if you're in the St. Louis or northern Minnesota areas.
