Katherine's Story
Life
My Spouse
I met my husband on a "blind date" at church! I was teaching 8th-grade in Atlanta, Georgia and another teacher at my school invited me to her church. I met Jim and we were engaged three weeks later! We currently live rurally in San Diego County - near the city of San Diego.
My Pets
I have had many pets over the years which include horses, cats, birds, rats, mice, and reptiles. Currently, we just have my Quarterhorse, Wendy. She is about 30 years old now, but looks and acts 10 years younger! Each day when I return from school, she is waiting for me (usually on my front porch - as we seldom pen her) and greets me with a warm nicker.
My Kids
We have two sons, Jonathan and Simeon. We have been very fortunate to have such fine sons. Both are men of character and integrity. Jonathan is an insurance broker, and Simeon is a special education teacher at Meadowbrook Middle School in Poway, California. Jonathan and his wife, Shelley, have given us two precious granddaughters, Grace Annabelle and Hazel Rose. Grace was born on my birthday in 2007. Now that's what I call a "birthday gift!" Our son Simeon and his wife are expecting their first baby (a girl) this coming Mar...Expand for more
ch or April.
College
I received my Bachelor's degree in August of 1972 from the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of New Mexico. My major was History and my composite minor was in English, Political Science and Psychology. I also earned enough hours in the College of Education to be a credentialed secondary teacher.
Later, in 1991, I earned a Master's degree at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego in Counseling. For 12 years I served as a middle school counselor in the Poway Unified School District in San Diego County, California - and prior to this I served as a middle school counselor in the Escondido Union District. Most of my career was spent teaching. After 16 years as a counselor, in 2009, I returned to teaching middle school language arts and social studies. It was a wonderful decision - and a great way to "ride into retirement" in the future. I plan on working until I'm 70 - or my body wears out first!
Presently we have two adult sons, Jonathan and Simeon. Like his mother, Simeon is also a middle school teacher. Jonathan is a successful insurance broker. Jon gave us two granddaughters (so far) and Simeon is giving us another one the end of March 2013.
