Life
Moved to Virginia in 1978,graduated from Harrisonburg high school. Married in 1981, had a son in 1984 and one in 1986. Divorced in 1989.Had a daughter in 1992, from a long term relationship that continues today.
In Virginia, we have lived in Harrisonburg,Hot Springs, Clifton Forge, Fulks Run, Grottoes,McGaheysville, and now back in Harrisonburg again.
My sons both moved to West Virginia to live with their dad when each turned 15, each moved back to live with me after they graduated, and are now living on their own.
My oldest is engaged to a very nice girl. My middle son is working as a deputy sheriff in corrections.. My daughter is in drama and choir.
Aug.2006 And now I'm a grandmother! Yay, welcome to the world,Aiden,Aug.24th!
School
I remember Parchment the best coz I went to Parchment schools from 3rd grade through sophomore year. Then went to Hackett h.s. for junior year, & then moved to Virginia & went to Harrisonburg high school my senior year.
College
Went to Blue Ridge community college for almost a year after I graduated high school, but was hanging out with a lot of people from work who went to James Madison University, & joined them in majoring in ....partying!!!so my studies came second....& then I realized I was going to flunk some classes, so I dropped out. Who ever thinks when they're 18 that someday they might be a single mom, & gee, it might help to have a college education??LOL Moved to MN for almost a year when I was 20, to live with my family again, & went to Normandale Community college while I was there...but, was DREADFULLY homesick for Virginia, as MN is just TOO DARN COLD!!!!The night my car broke down on the way to a friend's house & the wind chill was 54 BELOW & I had to walk 15 minutes to get to a phone, & then the cops impounded & towed my car while I was calling a towing company.........I said'that's it!I'm moving back to Virginia!!!!!"I do remeber I LOVED anthropology at Normandale, but I think that had more to do with...Expand for more
I had a massive crush on the teacher!!I also remember we had a BRITISH guy who taught American history, which was an intriguing twist.
Workplace
While I had the obligatory fast food jobs when I first moved to Virginia, I started working after awhile as a front desk clerk at a Holiday Inn in Harrisonburg. I really thought I was going to pursue a career in hotel work for awhile, altho I was going to college for early childhood education!!who knows what they want when they're 18?:)I worked my way up to night auditor, which always astounded me coz I stank in math during school! When I moved to MN, I worked at a Holiday Inn there near the airport, & got to meet Bob Hope,Glen Campbell, the O'Jays, it was pretty cool. Moved back to Virginia & worked as a night auditor at Massanutten resort for awhile, then....got marriend, & was a full time mom for a few years after that. When my marriage broke up, I was a high school grad single mom with no work experience for several years. Worked at a poultrey plant(Holly Farms)cutting off chicken wings as that was the first thing I could find when I suddenly needed a job. My sis said she couldn't believe it, but I told her, you can do anything when you have to feed your kids. Then worked at a convenince store for awhile, & then discovered I could get funding to learn to be a certified nursing assistant. So I fell into nursing backwards, I liked what I did & decided I could be a nurse...went to an 18 month LPN course, in the middle of which I had a baby, which I DON'T recommend to anyone!!!A nursing course is kind of a scrub your brain out, nose to the grindstone kind of thing!!!!My last nine months of nursing school, At Massanutten Tech.Center, when we were doing clinicals 3 days & classroom the other 2, I remember only ever getting about 4 hours of sleep a night coz I was always studying & being a single mom. To this day, if my son's say"do you remeber..." I'll say..."if it happened in 1993-94......NO!"Anyway, I became an LPN in 1994 .
