Dennis's Story

Life Our first daughter Staci was born in June 1970, our second daughter Shauna was born in 1972. We did every thing we could with our daughters, they were active in school events and we were there with them. We enjoyed raising our daughters very much. Staci got married in 1994 she has son Karrick who is six and a daughter Rylee who is three. Our youngest daughter Shauna got married first in 1992 and has two daughters Juhlya 10 and Lyndsea 9. Nine years ago whe Lyndsea was born they found out that Shauna had renal failure and had to go on dialysis, five years ago she had a kidney transplant. We have two great son in laws and four wonderful granchildren. My wife and I sold our home of twenty seven years in Glendora for a very good price and was able to pay cash for the home we live in now in Beaumont. We are doing pretty well, enjoy each other and our family very much. College After getting out of the Navy I went to Citrus College and graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree in Business. I transferred to Cal State Fullerton only to find out that the good councelors at Citrus had me pretty messed up and besides that the company I was working for went out of business two weeks before the end of my first semester and I had to take a job to support my wife and by then two daughters which did not accomadate my school schedule. I never have been able to get back except that in 1996 I took some computer courses in Windows 95, Windows NT Workstation and Windows NT Server. In 1997 the company I was working with closed the plant I was working at and I took an A+ Certification course through JTPA and became and A+ Certified Computer Technician. Since then I have worked a few jobs in that, but mostly have done dispatching for...Expand for more
Oil Companies. Military After Graduating from Brandywine, I worked at Kawneer for a couple of months and then in October of 1966 went into the Navy arriving in San Diego on October 11, 1966 for boot camp. After Boot camp I was assigned ot the crew of the. U.S.S. Sterrett DLG 31 which was still being built. We went to Fleet Training Center which seemed like more bootcamp except that you could go out on liberty at the end of the day and on weekends. Spent two months at Fleet then we flew to Bremerton, Washington to the ship. I stood firewatches lugging a big fire extinguisher following welders around. In April the ship was commissioned, we went on builders trials where you try to break every thing, fired some missles. In March of 1968 I was transferred to the U.S.S. Edson DD946 and shortly there after went on my first West Pac Cruise to Viet Nam. We stopped in Honolulu, Midway, Guam and the Phillipines on the way then Bangkok and Kaoshung. We fired a lot of rounds went back to the Phillipines in between our stints on the gunline off the coast of Viet Nam stopped at Hong Kong, Japan and Honolulu on the way home. Went to Aculpulco after getting back. I met my wife whose best friend was dating my best friend and came on board with her on a dependence cruise in February, we got engaged in March, Married in May. My got pregnant soon after with our eldest daughter, but the Navy told me I wasn not going to be there when she was born as I had to go on another cruise to Viet Nam. We stopped in Honolulu, Midway, Guam and the Phillipines again, went to Viet Nam, got fired at this time took minor hits, went to Kaoshung, Taiwan, Bangkok again and again stopped at Honolulu on the way home. The day we got back, I got out of the Navy.
