Kathie's Story
Life
Currently living in Cedar, Michigan, I am married, I have 5 children... yikes. Erika is 12, Abby is 10, Ben is 5 and Natalie will be 3 the day after Emily turns 1. So i have a very busy life and am ALWAYS tired. :) After i finished high school I went to Grand Valley State for 3 semesters and then joined the Army in the fall of 1991. I got out in 1994, and was in the reserves in TC for a couple years. I managed to get my associates degree thru NMC and am working at Avis rental car in the airport in TC. My husband, Bill, is a butcher at the local grocery store with the hopes of owning it in a year or two.
School
High school....probably the most miserable time of my life. I wish I could do it all over again just to not be such an idiot. I wasted so much precious time, I can only hope I can teach my kids what NOT to do.
College
College at Grand Valley was quite interesting. Having grown up w/such strict parents, I truly didn't know what to do w/my free time. I was running track, but only lasted through the indoor season. I was pretty spoiled by coach Rowe and this coach just wasn't very encouraging. My best and closest ...Expand for more
friend died while I was there, and I had a hard time getting back on my feet. I managed to fit in another semester, but my heart just wasn't in it. But I love the college and would recommend it to anyone.
Military
The Army. Definitely the funnest time of my life. I met so many people and made some great friends. I learned a lot about myself and was able to be more independent. Boot camp was not so bad, the hardest thing to do was to wake up every day and realize where you were. the rest was just going thru the motions. Lots of fun times. I was sent to Seoul, Korea right off the bat. was very different. Then I went to Ft. Riley, Kansas. Had a total sham job, spent most of my time laying in the sun or going to Silverados. What a great time. I don's so much as miss the Army, but i miss the people. You just don't find friends in the real world like the ones you make in the service. right, eric, robert and craig? :)
Update: Divorced and remarried. Have only 2 kids at home now. Natalie is a sophomore and Emily is in 8th grade. The pandemic has been hard on these two. I think we might be on the other side climbing out finally.
