Kathie's Story
Workplace
My first "job" was working as a secretary/bookkeeper at my Dad's business "Marine Welding and Repair Works" for 6 weeks in the summer between our junior and senior year. I was a draftsperson for the Mississippi State Highway Department in Jackson, MS. That lasted 9 months till I decided to go back to school. After finishing LPN school I worked in a doctor's office for 9 years. At that point I decided to go back to school and moved to G'ville to attend MDJC. While going to school, I worked as an LPN on the weekends at Kings Daughter's Hospital in G'ville. After graduating MDJC and passing the state boards, I continued to work at KD's as a staff nurse and house supervisor on the night shift. I loved the night shift. I married in 1984 and we moved to B'ham, AL. I worked for the University of Alabama at B'ham Hospital (UAB) for 18 years. I worked as a staff nurse, childbirth educator, grief conselor and nurse manager at different times. The best time was the last 8 years on a medical-surgical unit. ivate practice, but stay in the academic setting to teach other doctors.
After I suffered an injury in 2002 that put me on a walker, I was unable to return to bedside nursing. I got into the legal nurse consulting field. I work with attorneys on cases that involve medical issues such as Medical Malpractice, Personal Injury or Class Action suits that involve health issues. I have since added Disability Advocate to my practice. I assist people who are trying to get on Social Security Disablity and have been turned down. I can plead my client's case before the judge at Social Security who makes the final decision.
In addition to doing the Social Security work I am now making and selling jewelry. My profile picture is from an art show in Memphis, TN in November, 2009. I love working with beads of all types. I do lots of seed bead work and work with gem stones. You may have noticed the name of my company, Delta Jewelry Design. I wanted something that spoke to the greatest place on earth to grow up in. I am currently working on a logo. Of course it will be some form of a Magnolia! I have a web site, just google my business name if you'd like to look at more of my work. Of course any thing you see is for sale. Special orders are welcome.
