Kathleen's Story

We moved from California exactly one week to the day after graduation. My Daddy was stationed in Cheyenne so I wound up going to the University in Laramie. After graduation I taught in Nebraska before moving to Georgia. I had planned to be here for a year as I really wanted to teach overseas but God had other plans for me. I am still in Georgia starting my 40th year here. I did move to New Orleans for a short marital booboo but was sent right back here. Teaching and raising my daughter Katie were the main points of my life for a couple of decades. In that time I also was reunited with my son. I was pregnant with him at the end of college and times being as they were then I had to give him up for adoption but we were reunited in 1999 via the mail and then in person two years later. I loved teaching for 38 years and had planned to teach several more years but NCLB has totally ruined education. I won't get on that soapbox now but I had bucked the system long enough to no avail so I retired in 06...think the main office had a huge party at my departure. Not ready to stop working with children I became a nanny. I was blessed with caring for Julian (JuJu) from 3 months old to this past fall when he started full-time 3-year old pr...Expand for more
eschool but I'm still a part of his life, thank heavens as I couldn't love him more if he were my own. Shortly after he started school I was blessed again with caring for another three-month old...Drew. I have always wanted to live in 'the city' but could not afford it but now I have the best of both worlds. My home south of Atlanta is kinda of country..the city is fast encroaching but it's still on the country side so I have that peace during the weekend and evenings and during the weekdays I get to experience the city. I love being able to walk everywhere. When Drew got a new sister 2 years ago I was demoted to daytime babysitter-when-needed but we are still very much a big part of each others lives. When I can I love hiking with Sierra Club. I love the serenity of the hikes and have seen some beautiful places I never knew about in my adopted state. Last spring a group of us hiked in to a green inn (the only way to get there is to hike). It made for a great weekend. Since I now have my own life I keep busy with various activities; dance and tai chi classes, shoveling out and reorganizing my home, my daughter and friends and adopted family. Nothing exotic or outlandish but I love my life. Do miss the snow but love my life!
