Kathleen's Story
Life
Where to begin? Well, life has not been dull and certainly has been an adventure. I have two children (24 and 16) and have been divorced since 1998. In 1983, I changed to my third career -- I am a lawyer -- and I've been doing that for twenty-four years and actually enjoy it! However, I may be ready for a change!
After spending 50 years in southeast Pennsylvania, I decided it was time for a change. Since I first visited Alaska in 1995, I have wanted to move here, although my daughter did not. Ten visits later, I still wanted to move to Alaska! My daughter went off to college in 2001 and I accepted a job in Juneau, Alaska. Consequently, in June of 2002 the menagerie (two kids, a dog, and a U-Haul with the stuff that didn't make it onto the moving van) drove across the country to Alaska. Trust me, it is a very long drive even without the kids, dog and U-Haul. And yes, living in Alaska is everything I had hoped it would be (although there has been more rain than I had expected!).
Juneau has been fun albeit rather isolated. I do, however, love Alaska. I am surrounded by great natural beauty (as I write this I am looking out my kitchen window at snow-capped mts. and the Mendenha...Expand for more
ll glacier)and enjoy living "at the shore" since we are on the ocean here. If you are cruising through Juneau, contact me in advance and I'll give you the locals tour. Did I mention that I am into snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, and am a dog musher and hope to do an number of mid-distance races this year? As I said earlier, life has not been dull!
Workplace
I have had three careers. From 1974-76, I taught jr. and sr. high at a small private girl's school in suburban Philadelphia. From 1976-1980, I worked as the assistant libarian at a historcial society for two years and then was head of a public library in the Philadelphia, PA suburbs. Beginning in 1984, I began practicing law and worked at two large (100+) law firms in Philadelphia from 1984 to 1990 and then at a boutique firm in the Philadelphia suburbs (1991). In 1992, another woman and I opened a law firm in Plymouth Meeting and I ran that law firm until 2002, when I moved to Juneau, Alaska to accept a job with a small firm there.
I have served on a number of Bar Association Committees and lecture frequently to lawyers and executives in my field (employment law). I currently do principally employment law and civil litigation.
