Kathleen's Story
Please check out my website for Shameless Huskies Kennel and learn about my entering Iditarod 2010!
After 50 years in southeastern PA, I moved to Alaska in 2002. I was in Juneau for 6.5 years but moved north to SouthCentral Alaska in November of 2008 since I've gotten into sled dogs. I finished my first Iditarod qualifier -- the Knik 200 on January , 2009. It was -48 and with the wind chill it was -77. To say it was a bitterly cold race was the understatement. Brrr. My second qualifier was the Taiga 300 and my final qualifier was the Klondike 300 where I finished in 8th place; that enabled me to enter Iditarod 2010!
I've got two children: Christopher graduated from Stanford in 2014, spent a year in China on a fellowship, and then worked four years for the Center for Applied Linguistics in D.C. before starting graduate school at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. My daughter, Laura Larrimore, graduated from Davidson College and married her high school/college sweetheart. After graduate school, Laura and Jeff moved to Alexandria, VA where he is a principal economist with the Federal Reserve Bank an...Expand for more
d Laura works for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. In 2018-2019, Jeff was served on the President's Council of Economic Advisors. Because of his job, I was able to get a tour of the west wing of the White House and see the Oval Office; it was pretty cool. Their father, my ex-husband, retired from the Philadelphia Orchestra a few years ago.
In my spare time, I enjoy all sorts of outddors activities. The pictures include me this summer at Mendenhall Lake in Juneau, with Charm (my lap dog) and a picture of me with the Shameless Husky gang!
I was an attorney for 30 years before I began serving as the Chief Administrative Law Judge for the State of Alaska. In 2013, I got married to a wonderful man and we now live on the outskirts of Palmer, Alaska on a 40 acre farm that is on the National Historic Register. We spend weekends at our recreational property in Willow, Alaska where there are miles of trails for dog mushing. During the 2018-2019 racing season, my dogs and I competed in the ACE race (130 miles), the Tustemena 100/200, the Goosebay 150, the Two Rivers 100, and the Percy DeWolfe Memorial Sled Dog race.
