Kathy's Story
After HS, went to ECC and met many new friends! I learned NOT to drink straight gin - actually it took me a couple of times to learn that lesson, sad to say. Got married, had 2 great daughters, got divorced. After working various office positions I decided I wanted to go back to college and become a nurse. I finished pre-rec at ECC and then went to NIU and received my B.S. in 1991. Hey hey, a degree in B.S.! Some would say that was appropriated! I loved nursing and learned so much about myself and people. Nursing taught me to be strong, confident and proud of the work I did. I remarried in 2002 (disastrous 2nd try again at marriage) to the absolute love of my life, and retired from nursing in 2013. I still really miss nursing - ...Expand for more
that is really who I am. Anyway, my husband, Tom, and I live in Farmington, NM, in the 4 Corners area. The Navajo, Ute, Apache reservations surround us here. There are also the pueblos here, where traditions, languages, teachings are still tremendously important, and I love learning whatever I can about them. I tried learning to speak Navajo, but failed miserably. It is a very difficult language to learn, and was only recently translated into a written form.
Living here, we are close to the mountains, the desert and many national parks and historic sites. Chaco Canyon is awesome to visit and just watch and listen to the sounds of past civilizations. Nature, history, science - this is an almost perfect place to live, and I love it!
