Kathleen's Story

Hello Class of 83' I can't believe it's been 25 years from the time we graduated and I am happy to say that I have some very fond memories of JLHS (best teachers Catherine Belisle and Mr. Mooney) especially Aquarius, the drama production. As Stardust, I had an opportunity to dance and fulfill one of my childhood dreams. At that time, I also had an amazing mentor, Heather McKenzie, a professional dancer (who also choreographed Aquarius) and teacher at the YMCA, who trained me as a dancer and a YMCA fitness instructor. I was starting to teach aerobics, fitness classes and weight training programs for women. I was also involved in the production of the annual Y's dance show. Little did I know that I had a secret admirer. As prom night was getting closer, I asked Eddie Beaucage, the lifefguard at the YMCA to be my date because no one asked me, although I heard that one of my brother's friends was going to. I would like to believe it was all because my brother Jay was really big and would use his muscle on any guy that would come near me. Back to the secret admirer...he would come by himself to see me dance at the Y. He was very shy and I would say hi and not think any more of that. He came to a few of my dance shows. Then one day, we started dating. He was very kind with a good heart and a really nice mother. Daren Andreoli and I dated for four years and then parted ways. I wish him all that is good in this life and thank him for the lessons that I needed to learn along the way. Following high school, I earned a social sciences diploma from Dawson College and from there went to work in the social service field. I worked for the YWCA in Pointe St. Charles and the Boys and Girls Club better known as Dawson in Verdun. I attended Concordia Uni...Expand for more
versity, where I was first accepted as a an English major and studied applied social sciences. I later went to McGill University where I earned a certificate in Public Relations Management. For the last 15 years I have been working as a professional fundraiser for a variety of charities. For the last four years I have been living in Edmonton, AB and life is very good here. I am happy and pleased to share with you that I have found my soul mate, Stanley and that we have been together for 12 years. We officially tied the knot on November 3, 2005 as we had a Medieval wedding ceremony in the chapel of the Excaliber Hotel in Las Vegas Nevada in traditional mideval attire. What can I say, I really did marry my knight in shinning armour! I am currently employed at the YWCA Edmonton, that's the women's Y, as the Fund Development Manager. I also volunteer my time as the Treasurer with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Edmonton and area chapter and I am also an Essentials Fund Development Instructor. I am considering the opportunity to become a member of the Rotary Club. I worked in partnership with members of the Montreal Rotary Club in the early 90's at B&G club when I coordinated a Stay In School program for kids who were considered to be at high risk of dropping out of school (best job that I had so far!). Through their wisdom and service before self, I have grown both personally and professionally. As for life at home, Stanley and I have two fur babies (cats) Cuddles and EJ along with many fish in our aquarium. No children yet, but if it is meant to be, it will be. My husband is finishing his 20th year with the Canadian Air Forces and is currently deployed to Afghanistan. We both do our part to make our world a better place!
