Kathleen's Story
After college (D'Youville Class of 1973), I married my best friend, Steve Kraft. We have been together for 34 wonderful years and have 2 terrific daughters. Catherine (Casey) has her PhD and is a scientist at the University of Maryland Medical Center (doing cancer research). Casey will marry next year.
That's a blessing since our youngest, Victoria, will be married in September. Vicki has her Master's from George Washington University in terrorism and political psychology. She works for the Intelligence Unit of Homeland Security.
As for me, I taught High School English at Baker High ... yes, Lottie Marcy, Jeanette Williams, Jim Meade, Sam Cogswell, Joe Corey, and many more were still there when I arrived in the faculty lounge, and a lot of jaws dropped to the ground when they realized Father Priester had hired me...Expand for more
! I had a ball teaching there. Unfortunately, with Cathoic high schools closing, I did not have enough seniority to take a position at Bishop Timon.
I then worked for Buffalo City Hall Department of Inspections and Licenses (I was a researh analyst) until I stumbled into a teaching position at Bryant and Stratton.
Once again, fate stepped in, and illness forced me to abandon my teaching career. Now, I am the primary care-giver for my 87 year old Mom who has advancing dementia and renal failure. It's hard to watch her rapid decline, but I am glad that I am still in the area to render this care.
I have such wonderful memories of VA and how much fun it could be at an all-girls school (remember those horrible blue "walk-well" shoes that we had to wear our first year??)
