Kathleen's Story

Life I've worked in many areas over the years including: Dental Assistant & Receptionist for two years while attending SCCC; Legal Secretary (worked for Lawyers who went on to become Judges & helped campaign for one who ran for State Assembly - actually met Bobby Kennedy through the campaign); SUNY Exec. Secy at Stony Brook (Physics plus Ecology & Evolution); sold front ends & rear ends for trucks; Office Services Manager/Personnel Counselor for Arrow Employment; prepared files for million dollar plus mortgages for J.B. Kimberly & Assoc.; Talent Agent briefly (years earlier); ran talent shows; sang, emceed & judged Karaoke contests awarding trips, limo packages, etc.; sang on the radio; was on Cable TV twice; interviewed on California Cable Radio & New York's WLUX; competed with 2,000 poets from all over the world at the Int'l Society of Poets conventions in Washington, DC and was a semi-finalist the 2nd & 3rd year & was nick-named "Ms. Chocolate" for my delicious poem, Ode to Chocolate (1996). I added poems to the front & back of each chapter of my book entitled, "Love Takes Time" 1996. I put together, typed and was the Editor for 3 books for my Mom, Alice Gniazdowski Rusin: "The Colors of God's Love" 1994; "Rainbow Spirit" 2000; and "Knowledge From the Source" 2004 (all of which have been selling on Amazon.com & are still selling in several countries) plus I did some editing for Bertie Ryan Synowiec's books (she's Barbara's older sister); enjoyed being Co-Chairman of the Commack Post Office Customer Advisory Council; co-editor of the FSS News; an "Extra" in the Indy movie "This Thing of Ours" 2002 (out on DVD); received "Casting" credits for the Indy Short Film "The Painters are Coming" 2004 under my then e-mail handle, Kathleen Love; was an "Extra" in and earned "Extra Casting" credits for the Indy film "Johnny Montana" 2006 (film won Best Feature at Moondance Film Festival in LA); was a guest member of BACCA (Babylon Citizens Council of the Arts and was featured in one of their Newsletters); a Lifetime member of the International Society of Poets; member of the Nat'l Museum of Women in the Arts; NAFE; Who's Who of Women, Who's Who in Entertainment, Internat'l Who's Who of Women, etc. I enjoy taking photos that look like postcards! My initials are KAEMRA so my love for the "camera" makes sense. I even got a shot of an Angel over the beach at Bayport, LI. I've worked in retail & my last job was as a Pharmacy Tech for CVS. My Mom is a Prophet like Nostradamus so home is never dull with people calling for Free Messages from all over the World. Dad, who passed in 2008, worked full time till he was 76 and suffered a heart attack. At home, he repaired lawnmowers & bicycles & recycled bottles and cans. I became a Grandmother Dec.19,2001 & July 19,2002 & February 2, 2004. I have 3 amazing grandchildren - 2 beautiful Granddaughters & a handsome Grandson. I just LOVE being a Grandmother!! I painted my first canvas just before my 60th birthday so you might say I'm a "younger" G'ma Moses (ha,ha). I love doing decorative painting on glassware, metal, wood & canvas. I've sold many pieces already and am thrilled that so man...Expand for more
y people enjoy my work. My artwork is as far South as Florida and West as California, in Sedona and Chicago, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, Germany, Italy, and all over New York and Long Island. I've sold my artwork at the Dickens Festival in PJ for the 2nd time December (2006) and I've sold at St. Charles Hospital and at the Sweetbriar Nature Preserve in Smithtown, and the Town of Brookhaven Picket Fence Art Shows; in addition to people who make appointments for purchases. My paintings have been displayed in the PJ Library and in some professional offices. 7 of my paintings were on display for years at the Chase Bank by Mather Hospital til the branch closed in the fall of 2018. My grandchildren are my pride and joy. Samantha will be 19 in December, 2020, and her brother, Benjamin, was 15 in February, 2020. Madison will be 18 in July, 2020. I have been taking care of her since she was 3 months old and I love sharing my time with her and wish I could have had more time with Samantha and Ben. I moved back home November 1, 1999 to take care of my parents. I lost my father in 2008 but am still helping my mother who will be 95 in April, 2020 since she lost most of her eyesight and between Hurricane Sandy and our Nor'Easter she broke her hip and wrist. Since joining the Port Jefferson Seniors Club (oldest one in Brookhaven Town), after three months I became Treasurer and after a few years became 1st Vice President where I kept busy planning trips and in house and outside luncheons and parties. Since October 2013 I have enjoyed and been honored to preside as President & have been re-elected to that post. I decided to step down In October of 2017 to attend to my own health issues. Although it was a lot of hard work and long hours and many, many months, I LOVED organizing our 40th, 45th, and our 50th High School Reunions with Linda Sue Shropshire and Dennis Coburn's much appreciated help! Have had a great time connecting through Classmates and hope even more of my Classmates respond. Was very time consuming but I loved being able to create Journals for each Reunion which I expanded each time and the last one for our 50th Reunion even had lots of color photos of so many Classmates -- the best one yet! We grew up at an amazing time and have had so many fond memories to share with one another. Sadly, we have over the years lost many of our Classmates. Life today is so very different then when we grew up --- all technology instead of riding a bike and playing outdoors. We lived in a safer environment and its up to each and every one of us to ensure that safety for our children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren by what we do and say and how we vote for the best people to ensure Peace, Quality Health Care & Equality for All and NOT just the "Privileged Few at the Top"!! Love one another & make the time to enjoy our time spent with family and friends. Be sure to provide love and a safe environment, respect & equality for all and do not judge or hold grudges so that everyone may enjoy a wonderful life! Also, a very important Lesson is to be Happy with what you Have, not Jealous or Greedy for what someone else may have!
