Kathleen's Story

After leaving high school I have been many places and accomplished many feats. I was blessed with three daughters and adopted my son. I now have ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter. I moved to Missouri and lived in Buffalo, Lathrop, and Liberty Missouri over the course of ten years. Many things to learn and do. I started playing fast-pitch softball and found that I truly loved this sport. I played softball for over thirty years. When I came back to California I found they had no fast pitch teams and switched over to slow-pitch softball. I played for many teams and enjoyed my weekends playing in tournaments. I also ran the league for Northrop Corporation at one point. Life has not all been a bed of roses though. In 1990 my baby daughter who was only 15 years old was murdered in Wilmington. There are many losses in this world but the hardest of all is when you lose a dearly loved daughter. She stood 5'10" and had a promising career in modeling and songwriting which she never got to see come to fruition. She was happy and full of life and it was cut short by some moron who wanted a piece of her and she would not submit so he proceeded to shoot her through the heart. It is still hard to talk about but it helps sometimes to put things down into words. Backing up a couple of months I remember joining a very rewarding service organization by the name of Civitan International. My mom and dad were also members. My dad served as Governor for the state of California for Civitan International in 1962. My mom served as Governor for the same organizati...Expand for more
on in 1982. In 2000 I served as Governor for the California District of Civitan International. In the course of my membership I served in several local club positions as well as in several District positions which led to me filling the position of Governor. If you would like more information go to the Civitan website to see what this great organization has accomplished and is still accomplishing. Many of the projects we dealt with locally was through the Special Olympics program. Members here in California and around the world still work with this program. We also sponsor a research program located at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, AL. I am now living in Big Bear Lake where I have been visiting since I was six months old. The air is clean, the sky is blue, and it is a wonderful place to raise four grandchildren that I took on in 2004. One graduated with honors from Big Bear High School and one is a Junior at Big Bear High School and who is an Offensive Right Guard on the football team. He also was named to the second team of the DeAnza League. I only have two more to get through high school and then I am through raising children. I also went back to school both at school and online through San Bernardino Valley Community College. Last semester I finished my AA with a major in Religious Studies and minors in History, Accounting, and Sociology. I am now looking forward to transitioning to a four year college to continue on with achieving not only a Bachelors Degree but even possibly a Masters Degree. I look forward to continuing my education.
