Kathryn's Story

Three kids, two step children, six granddaughters, three step granddaughters. No boys. Mmmm. Lived in Florida from 1973 to 1982 and hated it. I missed the seasons and missed the mountains. Finally got back here in June of 1982 and stayed put in Hamden. Spent 20 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant, 11 years self employed with my husband and just recently retired. Even earned a Florida Real Estate and Broker's liscense back in the seventies and was co-owner of a construction comapny with my ex-husband. Whew! Been busy! I always wanted to be a interior designer and attended Paier Art College here in Hamden after graduating.. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, I was misguided. I got married instead before finishing. Should have listened. I might have my own show on HGTV today. I love relaxing with an Andrea Bocelli CD or the oldies, with the volume cranked up and a fire in the fireplace...or...go to our farm in Vermont, play in the dirt and watch the gazzillion stars out at night. I also am an avid reader and love Hallmark movies. My hobbies are, besides our wonderful farm up north, my art work, writting a novel or two, and cooking. I still freeze and can our harvest, just like my gradmother used to do. Wildest thing I ever did in school was skip just once in Senior year because it was my last chance to do it. Otherwise I behaved myself. I tried to be invisible. If it wasn't for my dearest friend, who was a type A personality, I would have remained invisible. I am not that shy anymore. The second wildes...Expand for more
t thing was attempting to get my pilot's liscense. I did fine until we had to do what is called a stall. That was the end for me. I did find ground school very interesting and informative but I would never again fly a plane. I miss my best friend, Joanne Auditore, who passed away 15 years ago. I wish she were here to still be a part of my life. I have so much to tell her. I talk to her every day but I have yet to get an answer. Or, maybe she has answered and I am not listening. Oh well. One can only wish. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a good nights sleep, a BIG cup of Dunkin Donuts Hazelnut, black, no sugar, and great co-workers to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I had that for 20 years at Elim Park Baptist Home in Cheshire where it was all about taking care of others. We were a family and still keep in touch. Now I am doing pretty much the same thing at home as my brother and I share responsibilities for my Mom, who has Alzheimers Disease. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. My husband is my hero. He keeps me focused. That can be hard to do sometimes. We've done a bit of traveling...Florida, San Francisco and Napa Valley, Seattle, Tennessee, the Denver area and the Rockies, the ocean at Cape Ann in Mass., but not near enough. Still lots I want to see, lots of places on my bucket list. But my first love is Peacham ,Vermont and our 31 acres there. That, folks, is heaven on earth. If I never get anywhere else, that's okay with me. Our little cabin the the woods overlooking the White Mountains of New Hampshire, is enough.
